I got 12 of these for pretty good price. Who made the filter and how does it compare to a STP or Classic Purolator?

Looks like they were laying around for awhile ... I see signs of rust.

NEVER seen one of those up here.

Have seen Quaker State filters, believe those ARE purolators? Ran a couple of those in my old Tercel and cut one, looked pretty solid inside after a good long run, can't recall the OCI now.

Ya. AFAIK, They were discontinued a few years ago.

My experience with the filters, they are very cheap. I can literally crush one with my hands. I've cut open many and media did not hold up well. A lot of quick lubes use them namely iffy lube due to there low cost. Your not going to blow up your engine using one, but there's a lot of better options. Ie puro classic or even a supertech.

That is a Fram.
Yes it is, an orange can spinoff painted yellow. An older PZ filter, they are now made by Purolator. An improvement IMO. Props to PZ for seeing the light.

To the OP, while I can't say much complimentary regarding the filter, the pic is a nice still life. A good use of that filter.

There's a small parts store in my neighborhood that still sells them. They are Fram knock offs, very inexpensive filters. I'd use them on a beater if the price was right.

This is the older Fram made filter, the last Pennzoil I cut open are made my Purolator. The rust is the only thing that would concern me, and how they were stored. Other than those issues, I would have no problem using them.

I'm going to say that Puroltor can do it cheaper than Fram, that's why they switch. I don't think they wanted to improve it.

I have seen Pennzoil filters near me within the last year and not at a small parts store, it was at Checkers. I bought some to cut open when I saw them and they were purolator made filters.

It's possible that Puro was low bidder for the account. It's also possible they wanted to spec a metal endcap design, Pz and QS filters are both now Purolator made. Whatever the reason, unlike the new Microgard, it's a good move, IMO.

And after reading the Puro/Pz filter thread on the mech board, I'm impressed with Puro's professional/timely response to the situation. I wonder if Honeywell would have been as reponsive.
