Just a couple of comments on this subject...
By now, Shell will be very aware of this fall-out problem.
Now whatever your views as a BITOG reader are (me - it's not right, others - meh, whatever) one thing is for certain; Shell will be incandescent with anger that the quality of their oils is being questioned in full public view like this. The guys in Sleepy Hollow will have had endless meetings over this. A special Task Force will have been set up. Anything appearing in cyberspace that mentions 'oil fall-out' (like this thread for example) will have been logged and assessed. Also significant pressure will have been applied from upon high to 'Just get it f*****g fixed!'.
Now big and mighty as they are, it is the way of things that Shell themselves will have been utterly useless at doing anything to actually solve the problem. They will be quite paralysed. They will say the barest minimum possible and what they do say will minimise and trivialise the problem with anything they do say pre-screened by the guys in Legal. Don't expect Shell to either engage in any debate or publish any of the mass of analysis they will have carried out on these deposits. It will just not happen. Ever!
The responsibility for actually solving the problem will by now have been 100% dumped onto the AddCo that supplies the DI/VII system (even though Shell's GTL base oil is probably as much to blame). When I say 'the AddCo', what I actually mean is the one poor sod who formulated this particular family of oils. You might expect there to be 'a team' of people to be responsible but it's amazing how few friends you have when the brown stuff truly hits the fan!
To that person, if you're reading this, I just want to say, stick with it. Weather the storm. Don't crack or go crazy. Finally don't expect anyone, either from Shell or your own side, to clap when you finally figure out a solution. Also reflect on the fact that jumping from a fifth floor window to escape an asylum might hurt to begin with but long term might be the best thing you ever do.
