my 1998 f150 4.6 has been running on pennziol 5w30 (platinum full synthetic) for 3 months now but it has only 2200 miles, this is my first time using a full synthetic so should i change it or keep it longer the number im looking at is the months since i do a lot of short trips as you can see.maybe another way to look at it is that it may be a waste of money since i do lots of short trips and im so used to do 3k oil changes thats why next in line is regular pennzoil 5w30 with a wix oil filter

I would go 6 months at least unless the oil is looking nasty. My wife's Aerostar has 4000 miles on some synthetic oil in 6 months and I plan to go another 1000 before I change it. That is with a mix of NAPA synthetic and half quart Redline synthetic with about three quarts top up oil along the way.

2,200 miles and 3 months on the oil? If it was my F150, I'd leave the synthetic in for longer than that. I'd probably change it out at 5,000 miles and have a used oil analysis done (with TBN) to see how the oil held up.

You need to double the mileage & months... then get it analyzed. Looking forward to your report.

Yeah, six months or 5,000 miles, then do a used oil analysis. Better yet, if this is the first run of Platinum, run a new batch another six months or 5K miles, THEN used oil analysis that batch.
