"U.S. oil consumption, which peaked at almost 21 million barrels a day in 2005, is now under 19 million barrels a day, according to the Energy Information Administration.

"The last time we had a decline in consumption of this magnitude was 1979-82," said Tancred Lidderdale, an oil analyst at EIA. U.S. oil demand isn't expected to near 21 million barrels a day again until 2029."

I realized that demand for oil had softened recently, but Holy Cow!

hmmm,

thats interesting. I makes me wonder even more why we're getting JAMMED at the pumps right now.

The price has been worse, but we're still paying more than we should on both sides of the border.

Simple. Chinese demand.

That, and fear sells everything....

More due to our dollar being worth less because of the spending of money that we don't have.

Wait till inflation kicks in. You'll wish for $5 a gallon fuel.

Taking growth figures from that article, if the economy grows at 2.5% for 35 years, that means the total value of the economy will double, but demand for oil will remain exactly the same as it is today.

I'm having trouble imagining that. That's a lot of efficiency that has to be added in to the mix. I guess it's possible though.

It'll be just the thing for the new $100,000 entry-level econobox I'll be getting in 2019.

Conservation has certainly been our ally. When demand exceeds supply the price must rise until the two numbers match - and world production capacity is now around 86 million barrels a day.

$150 oil is basically a tax on our wastefulness, with the proceeds going to the Arab country, and others! If we are careful we can keep prices lower, buy too many gas guzzlers and the price will rise dramatically!!

Oil field journals, USGS, most international energy agencies list a large number of oil fields in serious decline, only being replaced by new, difficult to drill and much smaller oil fields.

My advice: buy the most economical vehicle you can find that does the job!!

The USGS, especially INTERNATIONAL energy agencies are the problem. You can't believe any of their lies and propoganda. Oil fileds go dry and re-fill not to mention the fact that we are not even using the incredible sources of oil, oil shale, natural gas and coal that we already have all of which can be used to make energy. Then there is nuclear. We don't waste gas in this country. We just enjoy our freedom.

We have unlimited supplies of oil for the foreseeable future (about a 200 year supply, at least) and by the time that runs out they will have a newer technology that is actually viable instead of this ridiculous pie-in-the-sky joke of solar and wind power which has already proven to be a failure not to mention a eyesore on the landscape.

Believing the 'peak oil" scam is as ridiculous as believing that Co2 is changing the weather. Jeez, the next thing they'll have everyone believing is that we need to start throwing young virgins into volcanoes every time they rumble. I find it hard to believe that there is ANYONE falling for this tripe let alone enough gullibility to ruin the economy and put millions out of work and send our manufacturing base overseas because of it.

BEAM ME UP!

This is very true. Then there is the intentional move to prevent us from using our own considerable oil and energy reserves which lowers the supply and drives the price up while at the same time forcing us to be dependent on our enemies around the world for our oil.

While I don't believe USGS or the International energy agencies are accurate, what you said is going to be bull unless you can back it up. Unlimited for 200 year, sure, but at what price? 200/barrel can probably drill everything out but at 70/barrel, not worth the effort.

Like to see the linkies to 200 years of oil.

bear in mind that at 3% growth, that 200 years becomes 50ish years

You can Google "Lindsay Williams" and listen to what he has had to say since the 70's. He worked for the oil companies in the 70's and wrote the book "Energy Non-Crisis".

Of course he has been lambasted as a nut like anyone else that tries to tell us what is really going on. Here is a link to part 1 of one of his lectures. You'll be able to find the other 7 once you get to this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbakN7SLdbk

In addition to what Lindsay Williams has been trying to tell everyone for 40 years I believe it was the Secratary of the Interior under Nixon or Reagan who made a public announcement in regard to our 200 year supply of oil. That of course doesn't count what they have found since then. In addition to what they just found in North Dakota and Montana there was another huge pool found up in Alaska in addition to what is already there.

I forget his name but I think if I remember right he is mentioned in the lectures by Lindsay Williams. Then there is this: http://www.nextenergynews.com/news1/next-energy-news2.13s.html

I heard about this find from a local up in North Dakota about 2 or 3 years ago. In Montana, he said they were just going to let it sit there.

After watching the Lindsay Willaims video's don't bother looking for "Gull Island" on a map. It doesn't exist. Mr. Willaims life was threatened a few years ago when gas hit $4 a gallon and his book was pulled from cirulation.

I found a copy for sale on Amazon right at that time. It was on sale for over $1000. I believe it is back in cirulation now. I haven't checked.

There is a lot of informatio our there concerning the lies we are being told concerning the phony energy crisis and other issues. You just have to find it and look it up and that isn't easy for obvious reasons. Then you have the problem with anyone trying to get the truth out being labeled as a "nut".

If you don't want to believe Mr. Williams then don't. I do. "Cognitive Dissonance" is a real dangerous thing that too many are afflicted with.

I stand corrected. Gull Island can be found and from what they say wells have been drilled there and very little oil was found.

However, the data from the original strike was very closely gaurded and there is no telling how much data was hidden or altered just as with the recently discovered climate change hoax therefore it is hard to tell if they drilled in the spot where the oil is. If it is indeed there.

This is just one article debunking Lindsay Williams claims but I still have to wonder if it is true since they are currently pumping oil very near that location as this article states. The first strike was very closely gaurded and the data was hidden from everyone. This is also just one article I found on the subject of Gull Island.

http://www.petroleumnews.com/pntruncate/690171677.shtml

I never could find Gull Island on a map but with Google map I was able to locate it. It's up to anyones discression to believe or dis-believe what Mr. Williams says.

I know they are hiding our oil reserves from us and preventing us from using what they can't hide so I still lean towards believing Mr. Williams.
