The only reason I wouldn't think that it's the ignition switch is that the radio memory power wire does not pass through the ignition switch. But, perhaps a flaky connection on the constant wire to the radio would cause the same problem.

If you can get the ignition switch out without much work, you could check the terminals for heat damage or looseness.

Are ignition switches on the Jeep known to be trouble? Sometimes there's a main power relay that the ignition switch controls, instead of having the ignition switch control the power directly. That relay may be flaky.
 
They're not notorious. The only reason I thought of it was that it's been disturbed.

I've got the FSM for a 99 ..which is just about identical. Some stuff is in different places where they improved some stuff, but I think the schematics are the same. They have pretty decent overviews in it on what happens and/or how it's managed.
