Go get the Netcraft Toolbar for your browser. It will give you the skinny on those sites, with a "Risk Rating". If you turn in a site that proves to be a bogus one, they will send you a Netcraft coffee mug.

I get PayPal and eBay requests all the time, some are pretty slick looking. I guess some folks must reply as they keep coming.

We need to obviously ensure the truly guilty are caught.....

then hang them in public.

Not "drop and hang"

NO!!!!!

Hoist them up gently, tenderly, with warmest regards......

then finish the picnic in the town square as the neer-do-wells kick and thrash for awhile as they contemplate their transgression(s).

Let's put that "compassionant conservatism" to good use!!!!

Here's the last site that was supporting an attempted sucker move for my paypal info

http://www.yang.org.hk/zh/fundraising.php The linked address in the email has this .org.hk and then /images/paypal/error.html after it.

How many do you guys get? Anyone able to translate the page?? I'd love to contact the site administrator ..but it would appear that whomever runs the site is obviously in on the corruption

Yep ..that's what I did. It appears that the site is an alleged non-profit organization. Novel way to get donations

I get them regularly to an email account that is posted on the web. Not my choice to post an email address on the web, the organization that I work for stupidly does that. It, or the appeals for the same information from banks I have no dealings with, don't fool me.
"Delete" works very well.

The oddity that I find interesting is that most of these originate from foreign nations. Now there's plenty of browser redirectors and such ..yadayada

..but these foreign sites appear to hide in plain sight. It would not be too hard to find the people responsible. I guess that hk is a corrupt environment.

This stuff is slightly more sophisticated than the "Dear Honorable Sir, It is with great anticipation that I hope you are an honorable person to assist me in the disposition of my clients estate of $1.8 million. The late Dr. Bitu Inthebutt has no heirs .........Nigerian spam type stuff.

Ive got quite a few over the last few weeks. Seems like the theives are getting hungry or they just found out my email address.

I get at least one per day. Sometimes three or four. I'm especially disturbed when a whois of the linked page is an IP address owned by the Chinese government.

Here's the fun part though. The fields they want you to fill in are free form. Since it's not a real and authenticated form you can type anything you want. I usually do

I'll leave it to your imagination as to what a person might say to a scammer trying to steal personal information...

Not a lot lately, but for a while I was getting a lot of spam about my PayPal account, which is funny because I don't have a PayPal account.

One thing we have on BITOG is that only registered Members can view your profile and also members are the only one that can send you an email if you selected that option to receive emails.
