I'd love to see Richard Rawlings and Aron Kaufman from Gas Monkey take over that pathetic copy of the BBC Top Gear made in the US. Get rid of the dweebs!

You are talking about the stupid Paul Bunyan-looking, flanel-wearing, big beard, Rutledge whatever-his-name-is.. This Top Gear really IS stupid. They have them break into a car, drive on undriveable road, setc etc.. Its corny and dumb.

TIFF NEEDELL! I want to see him drive a minivan like a Ferrari...

I would rather see Adam Carolla do it. Much more entertaining.

Like Top Gear America for what it is, not TG:UK.

The problem so far has been that the American Top Gear feels too derivative. They need to go their own way - something they haven't done yet. They're still just copying the UK version.

That and Adam Carolla(sp?) and Tanner Foust do nothing for me. Tanner is a one trick pony with no TV skills and I can't stand the accent of Adam.

Maybe Jay Lenno for the third spot.

Agreed.

I like how they get old beaters and rag em out. My son is 5 and we watch it together. Its more of a comedy than a car show.
Nevrr seen the other version

The US version is painful to watch. The 3 hosts don't mesh well with each other, I'm half convinced two of them (Rudglege and the guy from NYC) wouldn't know the difference between an engine block and a brake drum ...

If they could get Jay Leno to be the lead guy, he would outshine Jeremy Clarkson on TG:UK. But I don't see Leno giving up the Tonight Show to host a niche cable program. Maybe after he re-retires.

Adam Carolla would be a better lead guy than the current Adam Ferrara.

Who saw how LATE they let the Ferrari launch off the line when they were oogling the CTS?

And the other one.. they raced a Minivan around a road course with a Ferrari, parked the Ferrari at a spot of the track with no pavement and just grass, and as a result it ended up waaay behind the minivan, which just drove over it.. ?

In the meantime, the REAL Top Gear gives us this: (World-class.)This video is awesome.

Humor is with the Stig, but all we want to see are the sideways smoking AMG burnouts.. The cars they get are unreal...

The wife and I are big fans of the original Top Gear from the UK but we gave up on the American version after the first season.

Tanner Foust may be a great driver but he has zero personality or onscreen charisma. Rutledge Webb grew on me towards the end but I still don't think he was a good fit for the show, generally being a bit too much of a clown. And it's painfully obvious that Adam Ferrara is not a car guy at all. He looked terribly uncomfortable behind the wheel of anything he was shown driving (or trying to). Having a 'Stig' is just dumb. It's probably just Tanner anyway so why the charade?

I think I laughed once during the first season, and that was when Adam dirt-jumped that big station wagon and bent it in half. It wasn't enough to keep my interest.

Corolla, Ferrari, got my cars mixed up.

I liked some of their shows. The first season was horrible but subsequents were OK. I did enjoy their truck show, that MotherTrucker had a ball!

You have to take it for what it is. If you find early episodes of the UK Top Gear, I think you'll find at first Clarkson, Hammond and May meshed about as well as these guys when they got started.

As I've said it before, here and other places. When the US guys are not copying UK episodes, it's pretty good. The toughest truck in Alaska was one of their best episodes. Last week, copying the UK RV episode was mediocre at best.

I've noticed the Big Star, Small Car segment appears to be gone, and I've not noticed many power laps by the US Stig recently either.

The thing is that the viewer base that Top Gear is aimed at is generally not fans of Jay Leno. Putting him on this show would do nothing. Yes, he's a HUGE car guy but he's also WAYYYY too harmless and vanilla to be interesting. I can't see Leno doing any of the pseudo-stunts they do on Top Gear.

Adam Carolla had his chance with his own car show and it was a flop. It was embarrassingly bad.
