Now I've heard it all. I bought some Valvoline 75w-90 gear oil for my car; I've made posts about how this oil simply shifts the best, even compared to Redline Mt-90/synthetic GL-4 oils.

The parts store genius said that regular gear oil will take away 20 hp compared to synthetic. I laughed and said how so? He said because it's so much thicker. I said well a 90 weight gear oil, synthetic or conventional, is going to be roughly 17 centistokes at 212F; there's no difference in kinematic viscosity. He looked at me like I just explained nuclear physics, rang me up and I went on my way.

Plenty of good counter people out there, we just hear about the bad ones....

Counter guy probably went home and posted how he picked up a $400 wood plane for $20 at a yard sale. One doesn't know, what one doesn't know.... 8)

No, but if you use synthetic you will have a 40 HP tractor.

You didn't stick around and have him enlighten you about synthetic oil?

I'm not so sure about the horsepower loss. I tried it in my automatic and it no longer has ANY power.

Just Kidding!!!!!!!

I would've just said, "if you believe that, you should be fired right here on the spot." Seriously, I've had it with this moronic counter jockeys feeding [censored] to people. Its just like people selling used Crown Vic police interceptors and advertising that the "cop chip" is still installed. ROFLMAO

He didn't try to upsell you on the Lucas Fuel Treatment?
You need this because it burns "hotter" to make more horsepower.
It also cleans valve deposits on direct injection cars and cures cancer in laboratory rats.

What burns me is, if someone some advice, and they then ignore it because "the guy behind the counter at ....... says otherwise"
"and HE should know!"

I noticed that every time I check out at Autozone they try to sell me some Lucas... I decline every time.

I am glad you found a transmission oil that works well.
They can be elusive to discover for each transmission!
At first glance, I would not think this rear end gear oil would be the best choice.

I refuse to shop there anymore..for various reasons.

The "automatic" upsells of little things from AutoZone was another nail in the coffin for me. Buy some brake parts... counter lady just grabs a packet of "lube" and adds it to my order. "Oh you're doing pads you'll need this".. No thanks, I have plenty at home.

I find the upsells only come from Autozone, or more so. They must get commissions based on store sales.

The guy really wanted me to use the $18/quart Royal Purple. Instead of the 5 buck stuff.
