Parts shortage. Ouch

It is pretty random...

Ive mentioned it before, i ordered some KYB strut mounts back around april or may of last year... currently one set showing ETA of 3/04 and one set showing 05/10 - ive had the struts a while, but they don't do me a ton of good without the mounts...

Denso air filter same thing...

Some stuff shows up quick, shops are saying Dodge Bros is the worst right now for OE parts...

I do GM/Chrysler parts and I tell you it is a nightmare and a miserable time to be a parts man. We have one customer that prepaid for a jeep hardtop in july of 2021 and we STILL haven't seen it yet. Customer is at wits end and so are we, apparently the company that makes them also does the ford bronco tops so that doesn't help our situation. The worst backorder for GM latley has been brake pads for 2500HD trucks that screech like nails on a chalk board with the factory pads, I have plenty of front pads for those that need them but the service bulletin says replace all and the rear pads are non exist and customers are getting very impatient understandably. Oh no actually the worst is the VLOM for 5.3/6.2 engines!! Most of my day is checking order statuses and it sucks.
Can confirm. Have 2500HD, also have screeching brakes. I don't get any noise from the fronts. Only the rear. I'm pretty used to track brake pads making a ruckus, so I've gotten good at ignoring these as well.

I took my F150 in to get the cam phasers replaced. They told me the parts would arrive in 3 days. 3 days later, they called back and told me the parts wouldn't be in for 3 months. Luckily, it's not urgent and I can keep driving my truck in the meantime.

Are you under the impression that no engine wear occurs with the bad can phasers ? I find it hard to believe it doesn't . The dealers says it doesn't . My thinking is if it rattles it wears .

Ford says it doesn't and I have no proof otherwise. I wouldn't want to drive it for years with a rattle but I'll only put on around 1k miles by mid April (when the parts are supposed to arrive).

I really hope they are correct in that statement , I don't trust Ford or dealers .

My '98 Nissan Frontier had an exhaust leak in the pipe between the manifold and cat.

The Walker part has been out of stock for months.

I ended up taking it to an exhaust shop who cut out the bad section and welded a new one in. They did it while I waited.

You may want to get the part numbers and see if you can get them quicker on eBay, Rockauto, other.
You may need to go to an independent to get them installed, but it could happen much quicker than at the dealer.
I do that all the time for my used cars, and I work at a Jeep Ram store.
This is covered under the lifetime powertrain warrantee I have on this jeep. The Axle was replaced two years ago. Since then, this will be the 3rd axle seal in 15000 miles. The surface on the axle that the seal rides on was undersized on the last axle they put in.
I do love that lifetime powertrain warrantee that was offered on the 2008 Jeeps. It has saved me several thousand dollars in repairs!

The valve cover gaskets are on backorder as well as the gaskets that are on the valve cover that the intake manifold seal to. On this engine the intake air charge passes through the valve covers so there are seals on top and below.

I have a 2016 Ford Focus that needs a transmission control module. Yes, it's the dreaded dual clutch "automatic transmission" and in 105,000 miles the clutch pack has been replaced about every 15K-20K miles. The shame of it is that I like everything about the car except for the transmission problems. I checked with the service writer before the drive train warranty ran out and found that the cost for me to have clutch packs replaced was around $2500 so I purchased an extended warranty on the drive train. But that doesn't get backordered parts delivered any quicker. I called Ford customer service today to voice my displeasure with this problem, but couldn't find a way to speak to anyone higher up than the guy that answered the phone. I'm sure that he has gotten enough grief without me adding to it. It's not his fault. I was told that the wait time on this part is 2-6 months. Hopefully I'll get it back before the gas is bad and the battery is a boat anchor.

I mentioned elsewhere that I drove all over town (four places) before I was able to find plain old 9006 headlight bulbs. Everyplace I went to, the tungsten bulb peg board was stripped bare.

I was shocked the other day at work when I was getting dozens of requests for H11 bulbs from other GM dealers. I have 6 thankfully haha.

Friend of mine has a ‘14 Ody with recurring brake issues where the pedal drops to the floor, no brakes. It’s done it several times, is becoming more frequent, and it’s been to the dealer 3 times for it, as well as an independent. Nobody is certain of the cause. I told them to mention a prior TSB for ABS module issues, and the dealership wrestled with the idea… $1600 gamble that they didn’t feel was a wise move since they couldn’t for sure say was the cause. When my friend pressed, because they ran off the road with kids in the van last week in normal beltway sudden-stopping, they realized it’s got to change. So the dealer looked and found indefinite back order on the part they need. My friend is legitimately looking at trading at this point, just to get a van with working brakes. They are spark plug capable DIYers, but brakes go beyond their comfort level, and it’s one of those where they need it fixed, and not me “trying things.” It’s a family car. Parts shortage = tough. Having an extra vehicle seems more important now, or an older one where used parts are available.

I have a bunch on backorder with no date off. Its one of those parts that even though it is expensive, I don't mind having 10+ in stock because I know they will sell.

My 2008 Jeep Rubicon has been setting at the dealer for two weeks waiting for a new right front axle and oil seal. Hard to believe!
Still waiting for the axle to be shipped. No estimated delivery date yet! :(

I've ordered parts directly from Japan and UAE and received within 7 days. Otherwise; weeks in CONUS. I have no explanation, other than we (USA) created our own issues....*I've ordered Axle shafts from Japan too.
