Parking lots for Solar Energy?

Yup. They should be on almost every building, parking garage, parking lot, etc. Also, we have a metric **** ton of empty desert in extremely remote places that's literally just sitting there. Why the F are we not utilizing that.

Can't just keep throwing solar into a grid when there's nothing to use it for, and as it's electricity, location doesn't mean that it's ncessary...e.g. my 26 panels produce 40Kwh a day (good summer day), and COULD (if I joined that cult) charge my car at work, by putting that power into the grid, and me drawing out somewhere else.

Panels over carparks intimate that they are filling vehicles locally...sort of, but it's a connected grid.

Is it a good free space that should be utilised ?

Abolutely.

Is it likely that the image shown would have sufficient power density charge every car under it ?

Very unlikely.

The covering of carparks, OR the building of vastsolar saces needs storage, and it's not cheap, with battery costs skyrocketting in recent years as everyone tries to do the same thing at the same time.

(Rationality suggests that PHEV is better than turning off petrol/gas/diesel), but NO, we MUST have pure EV's and batteries the capacities of which aren't used, and lose the lithium during recycling).

I mean, we "know" why. It's ****in stupid.

Let’s not stop there. Cover all the lakes with solar panels. Sunny beaches should be covered. Every back yard should be covered.
People couldn't use the lake then nor the beaches. You don't even make sense.

Well the way they are shoving EV's down our throats if they don't find better ways to produce electricity and more of it ! it's all pointless.
So i'm guessing every little bit helps at this point so why not cover the parking lots ?

Wonder what the future holds rolling blackouts ?
Rationed time of use ? limited to so many kwh per month ?.

I remember how hot my truck got at the work parking lot in Houston. It was hot. Frigging Hot. A roof with solar panels would have been so welcome!
And they would help with brownouts/blackouts too by giving some electricity back into the system during the day.

read once some where a engineer/phyisic guy calculated that if every square inch of the planet was covered in solar(not sure if he meant oceans too)the energy produced would not come close (small fraction) of what we use yearly.
Bet its easy to confirm ,area of land is well known and out put of solar is too. Anybody?

If electricity follows basic economics, the rule of supply & demand, an exponential increase in demand for EVs will result in an exponential PRICE INCREASE... UNLESS more green methods of generating power (& yes, I MEAN NUCLEAR) are brought online first! Not political, basic facts.

Parking lot is one of the best place to put solar. It benefits the vehicles under it, it charges the vehicle when parking under it during week days, it powers the nearby building during business hours so you have less transmission loss to further away places, and it is an open area for almost no cost.

For residential it may not make sense, but for schools it actually does.

The only problem will be weekdays vs weekends. If they can run some deals so residential customers nearby can "buy" electricity from these weekend generations from the school, it would balance out the weekday vs weekend use between home and school.

You will never have perfect match between generation and consumption locally, but, having generation and consumption be as close to each other as possible, is still better than further away.

I think weather still plays the biggest role as sun does not shine the same everyday. Unless you are in Arizona having the panels match the AC use then you can probably match them, otherwise, still just a guess.
