Which do you like the best to keep it SUPERClean?

- Mobil 1 OR
- Pennzoil ULTRA OR
- Valvoline MaxLife FUL SYNTHETIC

let us say.. 5w30 grade? And which will clean the BEST, and it is same Cleaning Property as 10W-30 Grade?
 
Pennzoil Ultra just came out, so it's not really possible to have any sort of long-term testing done already.

Any modern oil will keep engines quite clean, if changed in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's recommended OCI.
 
Pennzoil Ultra just came out.....no real experiences or data on it yet.

Id use whatever is the cheapest and not worry about it for your Calais. Any of those will clean an engine over time. However, sometimes you want a more gentle clean if the engine has bad sludge.
 
I would be willing to bet that Ultra<Mobil 1<Maxlife. Any synthetic, and most synthetic blends will keep the engine nice and clean of varnish. Even most conventionals should protect against sludge 99% of the time except in extenueating circumstances.
 
Valvoline is 4x better than M1
Castrol Edge is 8x better than M1
Pennzoil Platinum cleans out 46% of engine sludge in one application
Pennzoil Ultra cleans out over 35% more sludge than thier next best oil



All of the above statements are 100% marketing. I've seen engines that used nothing but Mobil1 their whole lives that were spotless. Any of these oils will clean your engine to a certain degree. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of them.
 
Give it 6 months. It could be the next Bitog darling, although I think Edge might be????????? Or maybe the new Honda or Toyota 0W20 offerings??????????

And yes both the 10w30 and 5w30 will clean similarly. Any difference you would most likely not notice. On your iron duke....run 10w30. It was the common grade at the time it was in production.

Thanks :) I just went with 5w30 it is on the cap.. should ibeat myself up and immediately Switch, or enjoy slightly higher MPG? Seriously, am i fine with 5W or chane to 10W in "Summertime" or does it matter?

Ive heard 10W-30 wears the best, then 5w30.. but we are talking Synthetic, yes? My enginesould be pretty clean since i SeaFoamed, Put 1/2qt ATF, AN had MaxxLife Synthetic Blend 10W-30 in itm just changed it out for 5w30 MaxLife Full Synth..

I doubt it, it seems like the BITOG "darlings" are usually full synthetics with a solid price/performance ratio, moreso than anything else.

I somehow doubt either Edge or Ultra will ever be the BITOG darlings, unless they come down in price. I'd guess Ultra has a better shot than Edge though, with all of the positive brand equity Pennzoil/SOPUS has around here.
 
Either 5w30 or 10w30 will be fine, don't worry about it, did you get the filter changed yet?

As far as oil, I choose whichever one is on sale when I walk into advance auto, MI, PP, Synpower, doesn't really matter to me.

You have a good point. I was able to grab Edge with a Pure One filter from AAP with one of the specials and then cash in on those famous $10 off a $25 purchase coupon. I think a lot of members did the same, and UOA's could be popping up in the very near future. Positive UOA's could propel it into Bitog Darling Status, or sink it faster than the Titanic.

If they work Ultra into one of those deals it could become popular very fast around here. At full retail prices both Edge and Ultra could very well die on the vine. Only way I'm a buyer is if they offer it in an OC special.
 
It's out here in AZ. Just browsed the oil isle at Walmart and they had the 5w30 on the shelf. I read the bottle. Seems like more marketing than anything else.. Just my opinion.

I am living proof that Marketing not only Works, but can make someone lose sleep.
 
I wonder who officially is the first Bitog member to buy Ultra. Come on fess up! Then who will be the first to actually use it. With about 30,000 members my guess is if it hasn't already happened it will very very soon!
