So I was skimming through my owners manual for my 2013 Honda Civic LX 1.8L for brake fluid spec, and I noticed that for reccomended engine oil they spec Honda genuine 0w-20. But at the bottom of the same page it says in a dialog box
"You can also use full synthetic oil as long as it meets the correct viscosity as outline in the manual"

So my question is...is there a non synthetic 0w-20? I thought 0w-20 was a synthetic only viscosity.
Why would they say in the manual that I can ALSO use a full synthetic oil if 0w-20 is syn only oil?

Just curious

0w-20 only comes in synthetic, except for the Genuine Honda 0w-20 from the dealer you can get that as a synthetic blend or full synthetic.

The dealer actually said try don't have the Honda genuine bottle oil anymore it's now Kendall brand which they claim makes Hondas oil

...and if the temperature is high enough then 5w20 would be nearly the same at startup.

I don't know why reputable car companies try so hard to sell oil with their name on it to make a few bucks extra. Folks who hang out here don't automatically buy into it, that's for sure. Oil specifications are exact enough through the industry that the notion that a Honda motor will croak on anything but "Genuine Honda" oil is pathetic.

Wow! I had no idea that 0W-20 was available in so many blends. Makes sense. It is quickly becoming one of the most recommended oils by the OEMs.

I have not seen 0w-20 in anything except full synthetic. Walmart, oreillys, autozone, advance auto etc. that display 0w-20 is printed as "full synthetic" on the jug/bottle whether it's Mobil castrol qsud Pennzoil you name it. But this gives me the need to research the others now. Thanks guys!
