Forgive me if this has been asked before, but we all know (and love) the search function here...

Is there an oversize oil filter for the Nissan VQ40DE? My nephew-in-law (is there such a thing?) recently got a 2007 (I think) Frontier with that motor and he was telling me yesterday about how small the oil filter is.

Second part: same question for the 2.5L in the Altima...that one looks even smaller, almost like a thimble.

The 14610/7317 is somewhat longer and should fit both vehicles, same gasket size and diameter. The 14459 has the same gasket size, is a bit shorter but larger diameter, holding greater oil volume than the 14610. The latter fit would depend on width clearance available for either vehicle.

Not sure why Nissan seems to spec the shorter/shorty 14612 size in many of their vehicles. Never seen one that didn't fit the longer 14610 size.

EDIT Just noticed the 14610/7317 size is the spec size for the 4.0L Frontier, so as said, the 14459 fit would depend on width clearance available.

You can never go wrong with the mobil M1-110. I find that the Bosch Distance Plus 3332 and PL 14610 work the best. I have tried the Wix 51356 and not had good luck with it for some reason. I notice the 2.5 engine idles a little rougher with Wix filters. You have a more powerful engine which will probably have more flow so may not affect you. Just info from a guy who has tried a lot of filters for my Altima.

I have also noticed Honda PLM-001 and PLM-002 work well also. It is the same filter for newer Civics and Accords if my part #'s are off.

I use the Baldwin B1402 for my wife's 2.5 SL Altima. Got them on Filterbarn for under 3 bucks each.
