About 40 weeks ago, when I was working remotely from home (Covid-19), I heard my wife say some naughty words in the bathroom. Those words were the unexpected, unplanned, and shocking news that she was pregnant, per a 99 cent pregnancy test. We have two girls, ages 5 & 2, and had previously decided we were done having children, I couldn't imagine having three girls, and my family history was full of ALL girls. We were content and happy.
Since the news, we had to make some signifiant changes to ensure we could accommodate our growing family.
-I sold my stick shift Elantra GT, that I LOVED
-Purchased a minivan as it's just necessary
-Shifted all the kids bedrooms, losing our guest room which wasn't needed anymore as no one wants to sleep in a circus.
-My wife who was actively looking to return to the workforce, declined a 50k job. That extra income would have been a welcome change.
-Mother-in-law moved into our basement (800 sq ft apt) She's amazingly helpful as we have no family within 7 hours of us.
-Got a vasectomy...
Friday evening, I finally got my BOY. A healthy 8lb boy. Mom is doing fantastic.
While this wasn't our life plan 41 weeks ago, I'm the happiest dad in the world. I'm off of work for the next 4 weeks and hope to enjoy this time with the family.
Cheers!
I'll be changing my MIL's brakes and changing the transmission fluid on the minivan in the new few days...
