Outlook Malfunction

Have windows XP. Microsoft Outlook Express 2003. Been working fine until the other day, When I tried to retrieve my e-mails after Getting a few 5-6 it would close, when I re-opened It would load the same messages again then close. Now today when I try to open it says Operation failed. Any help would be nice. Thanks

Most older Outlook Software at my office get the fatal failure like ur talking about and cannot be fixed. We now use Mozilla Thunderbird. Its not too bad and doesn't seem to crash like outlook.

I don't know if Outlook Express uses pst files the same as regular Outlook or not. If so, you might try replacing your current version(s) of the pst file(s) with those from your most recent backup (you are backing up, right...). I have found that as these files swell to large size (and they can get very big if you're filing/archiving emails as opposed to just deleting them when done) and are then prone to becoming corrupted.

This is what happened on my XP machines, running the 2003 version of Outlook. So far, a month or so into my Win-7/Office-07 journey, no such problems.

Perhaps it's a timebomb built into the software so as to force you to buy new hardware and of course, software.

Outlook Express has been replaced by Windows Live Mail.

Windows Live Mail will work with XP (32 Bit Version) as long as you have service pack 2 or 3 installed.

I use and recommend Thunderbird for Email.

Thunderbird works with not only Windows but too with Mac O/S and Linux.

Have you deleted as many old messages in Outlook Express to see if that would help? There was a size limit as I recall which would cause you to loose everything and it was difficult to recover the stuff.

The original post says Outlook Express 2003, and there is no such thing. My guess is that he is talking about Outlook 2003, but some clarification needs to be made.
