As I already said ...I have no problem serving on a jury...just not one 2 hrs away 1 way. If it was at my closest court then sign me up! Can't they get anyone closer to that court?

Well, I'm the opposite. I certainly wouldn't want to be on a jury in this town, and even the city 30 minutes away is too close. I'm worried about a recent gang killing, some involed are a little close to town...if I'm recognised in the jury....I'm on the wrong side of the wrong town. But then that could excuse me from that trial. I'll find out on monday.
I went in...and pulled the old man card to get excused. Disapointed in a way because I always looked forward to do jury duty at some stage. I drove around Auckland all day on sunday, but today in the smaller city hit commuter traffic, by the time I got to court I wasn't happy, then there was a security search...they are trained to deal with angry people at the courthouse, he could see the sparks coming off me. Then I had to wander around the court until I stumbled across the jury sign in. There was a small room packed with people - no, no way am I going in there, I don't do crowds.

Again, if you lose a promotion because you showed up for jury duty, you were probably not getting that promotion in the first place.
And if you could prove that you lost it, or your job, because of jury duty service, you would be able to win a lawsuit against your employer in court, and there isn't a judge in the entire country who wouldn't rule in your favor if that's what actually happened.

Only done the jury thing once. It was a laughable experience. We were stuck for 3 days, and ultimately the prosecution plead out the case to some kind of random misdemeanor......down from manslaughter.

He couldn't prove it, but not actually being able to work at his job steadily for a year and a half did it. I know several people who could be bankrupted by jury duty. I know several others who simply HAVE NO WAY TO GET THERE. They live 20+ miles from the court house, and do not drive.
