Our parked car hit

My wife/I discovered decent amount of damage to the side of our Acura MDX rear fender. It happened(by white car) while it was parked within a Boston(Copley) parking garage overnight. She did not notice leaving due to poor lighting. Obvious at home.

Does this kind of damage get covered by insurance (collision maybe)? We have high deductible ($500) but damage appears towards $1000.

Actually I think it's covered under your "comprehensive" insurance.

Did you file a police report? If you haven't, do it now. Report it to the parking garage too. Maybe they have video coverage of the area.

Typically, it is covered by any comprehensive coverage option that you may be carrying on your insurance policy. Liability is for damage that you cause to another's person/property (e.g., to repair the parked car you hit), collision covers damage to your vehicle when it is your fault (e.g., to repair your car after you run into the parked car), and comprehensive covers everything else (e.g., hail damage, rock breaks windshield, tree falls on your parked car, someone vandalizes your car, etc.).

I live 50mins north of place it happened. Have not filed with police or insurance. If it is comprehensive its less painful with a $100 deductible.

It is collision if another vehicle hit it. If something fell on it or was blown into it by wind, it is comprehensive.

It might be possible to get it cover uninsured motorist with a police report.

That's not how USAA sees it. If you collide with some one or they collide with you, it's collision. My parked car was hit and I was initially responsible for the collision deductible. I was later reimbursed when the other guy's insurance paid up.

Sorry to hear about this. Ticks me off how inconsiderate people are, damaging your property and driving away like nothing's happened. Hope you're able to get it sorted through insurance.

My wife parked it so I am not sure. Probably yes but not sure if on our vehicle as garage is quite large. It was pretty dark against our vehicle and tight. I think next time the $47 valet(in hotel) is worth it instead of the $35 public garage although public had a skywalk to hotel lobby.

She is going to call garage but no one really cares in MA when a vehicle is hit. Unfortunately its an hour down in perfect traffic so a remote hassle.

They might not even take a report...they often do not for collisions on private property.

yep, around here the cops wont come out for an accident in a parking lot or at a mall etc. They say its private property not a roadway. You have to go to the station and file a report.

The really infuriating thing is that many times their are at least two people in those cars and if it is tight in and out of the parking spaces one can get out and "spot" the driver so they don't hit another car. This is just one more case of inconsiderate, thoughtless, and sloppy people and culture we now have in the country. I don't care what ANYbody says, especially when they claim "it is what it is" (another disgusting phrase). When people do the WRONG thing they need to be FORCED into making it right if at all possible. We need to raise the cultural and behavioral bar.
