Are these Motor Gard filters? If so, you'll have to look at it to see who manufactured it. I've used different Motor Gard filters and some were an E-Core and some were a generic Fram without the rough grip.

They should be,MicroGard's.

They are now being made by Fram, they used to by made by Purolator.

If it is an older one made by Puro,it will have the same base plate as a Puro does.

If the oil inlets are small, its a Fram made filter.

free filters ? sound like canidates for short oci's and engine flushes !! put em on the shelf till you need them !

I used one on my Saturn SL2 last oil change. It came with the NextGen oil deal. It was a Fram design. Used it 4,000 miles with no problems.

I knew when I typed Motor Gard that it didn't sound right. Yes, it's MicroGard. I do have a MicroGard MGL8A (same as a PH8A) that is an E-Core. I got it will one of their own deals. I know Fram and E-Core are both owned by the same parent company, but there still is a difference between the Fram and E-Core filters.

Microguards used to be Puro's, were Frams for a while and recently changed to Champ e-cores. If the were the Older Puro's or nearly current Frams I'd use them in a heartbeat. The e-cores no.
