There is one rebate for Valvoline Restore and Protect that runs through January 27th.

If you pay $37.99 for a 5 quart bottle you get a free Wix filter and a $15 gift card. Make it an XP filter and the price goes to $39.99 plus the $15 gift card.

Valvoline Restore and Protect is now avalilable in 0W-20, 5W-20, and extra minty 5W-30.

With Advance Auto Parts and Rockauto nearly giving filters away this isn't a big deal for most of us. You can get Valvoline Restore and Protect for $29.97 without a rollback at Walmart and then just buy a few filters without the hassle of a $15 O'Reilly gift card.

But if you don't have AAP nearby (or love O'Reilly) and don't want to order a small army of filters from Rockauto, this may be the best deal for right now.

So a net $22.99 plus about $2+ in taxes for a free DIY oil change if you visit O'Reilly once or twice a year. I do get replacement bulbs from them a few times a year so I may pick this deal up. Limit 2 Oil & Filter Specials.

ty but i was reading those wix are indeed redesiged now but have a really thin easy to dent/puncture casing, anyone can comment on this?

The XP seems to be redesigned but their basic ones I believe haven't changed. The cans aren't going to cause you any trouble unless you're trying to bend them.

I am about to use this deal to get a Wix WL10351 and some oil for a GM 1.3 L3T. Those filters are claimed to meet USCAR-36 standards. I assume this testing includes stressing the cans in various ways to ensure sufficient strength.

Now, the QC on the elements, louvers, etc. may remain suspect on some units for sure. I’ll have to check.

It’s not the best deal but for those who like Valvoline Restore and Protect and want to support them by making a purchase, it’s definitely worth picking up a jug.

I could be wrong but seems like as good as a deal as it can get

I normally pay $30 for a jug at Wally and I get any top notch filter which is around $10 each

That’s $40 without tax etc and I used to think that was a fine deal

Now I’m getting the same filter and oil combo for $40 which is fine and then a free $15 gift card. + I don’t have to goto 2 diff places since Wally only has Fram which I’ve been avoiding recently. That’s $15 minimum saved. Seems like a good deal to me

OP kinda already explained this but I just wanted to add my 2 cents

Well, it looks like O'Reilly may be overloaded with a few too many MBAs at their corporate office.

Valvoline Restore and Protect is certainly there for $37.99 but that filter... isn't really thrown into the deal.

What they do is jack up the price of the Wix filter to about five times the market value. Mine would have been priced at $20, and this deal only covers up to $15.

That adds an extra $5 to the total price. $42.99 plus tax..

So what's the alternative?

I can get the same jug at Walmart without a rollback for $29.97 and the filter is $3.84. About $9 less before the gift card.

If you add the $15 O'Reilly card that you hopefully get in 6 to 8 weeks, this is really just a $6 discount. And you better make extra sure that you ask for a Walmart price match with whatever you decide to buy with that card.

Because whatever you are looking for... chances are O'Reilly is going to price it sky high.

$20 for a basic Wix filter? When did O'Reillly become the next Venezuela? Whatever dittohead came up with that idea deserves to be sentenced to 2000 hours of machining rotors, without any earplugs.

Yes. This is always the gimmick. ??

I wonder if they will give you a Microgard Select instead, without the markup? Parts stores used to do this but I haven't asked recently. The MG is a better product anyway.

Trying to understand the "gotcha" here.
If you pay $37.99 for a 5 quart bottle of Valvoline Restore and Protect + free Wix filter, and you get a $15 gift card O'Reilly gift card, is the gotcha that you still have to pay $20 for the "free" Wix filter?

Also, is this deal only available in store, or online too with free delivery if you pay over $35?

No idea about the delivery but in order to get 'the deal', you do have to buy the WIX filter. In my particular case the filter was priced at $20 (Volkswagen - 2.5 Liter engine. Very common engine). So the real cost of the deal was $42.99+ tax.

So if you want to consider it add your filter online and see how they price it. From my estimation the filter is double Walmart's price and about three to five times a comparable replacement.

Thanks for that info. Will check it out.

The O'Reilly deal is only worthwhile if you get a filter that costs less than $15.

For example, the Toyota (equivalent to Fram PH4967) or Honda (equivalent to PH7317) spin-ons are marked up to $14.99 and thus don't increase the total deal price. At $37.99 minus $15 rebate gift card, the total net price would be $22.99 ($25.xx after tax). Not bad at all, but if the filter cost more and the overall price increased, it may not be worth the rebate hassle.
