Put the order in for a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport's today for the car. They are to be installed early next week. Looking forward to some matching summer rubber

Will post pics once they are on.

Pretty much every single M car among my friends (including a nearly 400 WHP NA E39 M5) is now running those tires. I'm sure you'll be quite satisfied. :]

You should love those. I have them on my Volvo and am very pleased. They replaced a set of Michelin PS2's that I was also very pleased with. I think I got about 20k miles out of the PS2's and I should get somewhere around 25-28k out of the PSS's, super stoked they lasted so long.

Yes, I remember you mentioning you had them. How do you like them compared to the PS2's? The PS2's were the OE tire for this car, but a lot of the guys are going with the SS's now, as the price is better and it is argued that they handle just as well, but with longer tread life.

They seem to handle just as well as the PS2's. I am very pleased with them. I kinda went too long inbetween rotations, so this set won't last as long as I would want. Either way, I am very happy. They have lasted numerous drives through the LA freeways and on PCH and through Hope Ranch and 192 in Santa Barbara. I am not easy on them, and they perform flawlessly.

I don't know

that may be application dependant. I know for my car, there were none listed.

Knowing I may get chastised for this, I have to ask. Why would you want a runflat? These tires are usually for performance applications where runflats tend to um, not be good for that generally.

Congrats!

I wanted to go with Michelins this time around (Pilot Sport A/S 3), alas, they won't be out until later this year, and I really need some new tires now, so I'll be getting another set of B'stones instead.

I didn't find the price all that bad

They were $200/tire cheaper than the PS2's

If they would only make my size! I am currently running Ventus V12 Hankooks which were recommended by the BMW boys as a great summer tire. They are merely good.

Please provide feedback as these are set in my mind as my next tire and I will need some before summer's end.

Not chastizing, but here is my angle...

Because most of us don't spend more miles on the track then we do on the roads, and the reality is that the absolute edge of performance is only an on paper scenario given just how much cars these days can do.

While not an M5, my 135i is pretty darn stout. Motor trend road tested a 2000 M5 and it went to 60 in 4.7s. They got 4.6s in a 135i. Mine's a convertible, so a few pounds heavier - so what, 0-60 in 5 or 5.1s? M5 is limited to 155, mine is limited to 156 MPH. Im not saying that a 135i M-sport is an M5 in any way... Just saying that both are pretty darn impressive in what they can do, and as a result, neither, when used on the roads, can use anywhere near what the tires are rated for.

So why all this talk? Really just because it is a moot point "performance" wise for most vehicles.

But the tire is exalted as a great tire not just because of performance, but also because of treadlife, noise, etc. Why wouldnt I want that?

My car doesnt have a spare. While (knock on wood) Ive been really lucky, and havent been prone to flats, Id prefer to NOT have to use slime or other garbage if I had a flat. Nor do I want to have to carry a compressor... So an RFT on a GREAT tire is a good compromise for me.

My car doesn't have a spare either, LOL! The spare tire well houses the battery, a compressor and a can of BMW-branded "fix a flat"

And I'm a real fan of your 135i, I was looking at one when I was up at the dealer, they are a REALLY sharp little car

Nope, they were literally $200.00 less per tire. I was blown away!

You definitely will not be disappointed. I have really liked them ever since they were installed last fall/late summer. My previous set of "summer" tires were Pilot Sport Plus all seasons. On/off ramps are even more fun now!

I defiantly feel like I hit my limit before the tires hit theirs which wasn't the case with the all seasons. Wet performance has been very impressive.

I have noticed they do lose grip easier in the under 40 degree weather we have had in Michigan. This being my first set of summer tires I don't know how much is considered normal. I took off my winter combos a little early this year as I think I may be able to get one more winter out of them.

The only complaint I can think of is that the tire looks a little more "stretched" (therefore not as chunky) on the rear (in 245) as my all season tires did in the same size but that's a pretty superficial complaint.

They have now replaced the PS2s as the OE tire for the new M5.

I run Pilot Super Sports as the summer tires on my Mazdaspeed 3 work beater. They are phenomenal tires; so far I have always run out of courage before I have run out of grip. While the MS3 is certainly not a fast car, the tires do make it easy to exploit what performance capabilities it does possess.

I think they were more expensive the last time I bought tires. I remember that they were almost $100 per tire more than the Continental Extreme DWs I ended up buying. Plus nobody had them in the 285/18 I wanted. I just checked the price on them and they look very reasonable now.
