Knowing I may get chastised for this, I have to ask. Why would you want a runflat? These tires are usually for performance applications where runflats tend to um, not be good for that generally.
Not chastizing, but here is my angle...
Because most of us don't spend more miles on the track then we do on the roads, and the reality is that the absolute edge of performance is only an on paper scenario given just how much cars these days can do.
While not an M5, my 135i is pretty darn stout. Motor trend road tested a 2000 M5 and it went to 60 in 4.7s. They got 4.6s in a 135i. Mine's a convertible, so a few pounds heavier - so what, 0-60 in 5 or 5.1s? M5 is limited to 155, mine is limited to 156 MPH. Im not saying that a 135i M-sport is an M5 in any way... Just saying that both are pretty darn impressive in what they can do, and as a result, neither, when used on the roads, can use anywhere near what the tires are rated for.
So why all this talk? Really just because it is a moot point "performance" wise for most vehicles.
But the tire is exalted as a great tire not just because of performance, but also because of treadlife, noise, etc. Why wouldnt I want that?
My car doesnt have a spare. While (knock on wood) Ive been really lucky, and havent been prone to flats, Id prefer to NOT have to use slime or other garbage if I had a flat. Nor do I want to have to carry a compressor... So an RFT on a GREAT tire is a good compromise for me.
