Nice, except for vista! I'm a big fan of those Dell desktops. I have a Dimension E310 that I got for free. Mine has 1 GB of RAM, 2.8 GHz dual core processor, and a 160 GB HDD. Runs really fast with Linux Mint!

What's wrong with Vista?

I don't understand all the hate for Vista. I had a computer (gave it to my parents) that had Vista on it and it was fine and they are still using it without any issues.

The only trouble I have had with Windows over the years was with ME. I suffered through that version for a few months and finally went back to 98.

Good call on the Dell, I've always had good service from all my Dell machines.

its because vista was um.. frustrating when it came out. its not so bad now.

windows 7 is basically vista that worked.. but the service packs and such fixed up vista pretty well.

I used it for a couple years, it's one of the worst windows versions that I know of... Only windows 8 is worse.

For awhile I was buying those T3500's, starting in '08/'09, I think.
The video cards were a weak spot. They first came with a passive-cooled Nvidia NVS 290, all those (4) failed under Dell warranty and I got either the FX 1800 or an NVS 295 as a replacement.

I've bought one since the first failures, it came with an FX 1800 and that failed a few weeks before the Dell warranty expired, I phoned and got that replaced but was jacked around a bit - they had no record of my calling before the warranty expired, but I had full details of whom I talked to and when I called.

I've loaded and run Win7-64 bit on them all. Just can't use the Vista sticker for the OS license.

Seems the T1600 was short-lived. I think the current model is T1650. Have bought one of each. I guess the T3600 is the current T3xxx series.

I bought a copy of windows 8 when it first came out. Tried it for a few months and went back to win 7. A month ago, I tried win 8 again, it lasted 2 days on the computer before I was back to win 7 again. I sold my copy of win 8 on ebay and pitied the fool who actually bought it.

It's bloated. Superfetch is broken and was never fixed. It requires higher resources to be usable than W7 and W8/8.1

Vista is the windows me of the NT kernel.

It can be made serviceable by disabling superfetch and windows search. Caching schemes are completely useless when they make the machine slow as molasses for the first 20 minutes it's on.

Windows 8.1 is great and has more features than ever before. But I choose to run the optional Start8 desktop with it. It keeps things simpler / more user-friendly for operators without vast knowledge of computers.

Even with Start8 Windows 8 is an awful mess. Microsoft lost me on windows 8, I've since switched over to Linux. I only wish I had made the switch sooner... I won't ever buy a Microsoft product again.

I would rather give myself an enema than use windows 8.

When using a SSD you can disable superfetch.
