Can't beleive I found this site! And I thought I was the only "oilaholic" out there!! Learned so much in the past couple weeks, reading for hours on this site til my eyes burn.
Anyway been changing my own oil for past 20 plus years so Im pretty much ok on the oic thing although Im suprised to see some of you are taking your conventional oil past 5000km, I always thought that was a no no.just a couple ideas i want to throw your way guys and let me know what you think...
Got a 82 chevette....YES CHEVETTE as a winter car only 108,000km mint condition only done 2 oil changes since i aquired it 5 months ago with castrol gtx 10/30, end of march thinking of putting in HD 30 supertech picked up from Walmart takes 4 litres (hey you canuks their clearing them out for 2 bucks a bottle) so i bought 10 bottles im thinking using it from april-sept that 6 months. the car does see the high way 90 percent of the time, does not burn or leak any oil,im kind of curios to use high mileage or even 15w40 .the ownwes manual has 15w40 listed on the oil chart but ive read some where here it may be hard on the seals? so i will try the HD 30. what are yor experiences with HD 30? I remember running it in my 78 CORDOBA cause some one gave them to me free ,it did quiet it down a bit, does this oil have more detergent cleaning capabilities over a regular conventional oil? i mean im never pay regular price for oil so like alot of you once i hit walmart or up here canadian tire, zooom straight to the oil section to see what new or on sale. if any of you had one of these olbabies or any of you ol time gm mechanics tell me what you think.the car runs and looks great beleive it or not but the engine is alittle loud i know its normal cause its not the first chevette ive had.also got a 93 gmc safari with 267000km on it,its my work van currently use valvoline hm 5w30 oil change every 5000km which is usually 2 months. was leaking so i started using gtx hm then went to valvoline (was on sale) can i use HD 30 in the safari and run an extended oci?
Lastley got a 96 toyota tercel in the garage only 130000km put it away in oct with Mobil 1 10w30hm and started a leak!!! didnt have that before,Ive read thats common here with that oil.I think i will drain that oil out and put it in the chevette run it for half a hour and drain and the put in the hd 30. Gonna put valvoline hm 10w30 back in< by the way you Toronto guys walmarts got a clearence on the 1 litre bottles of Valvoline MaxLife 10w30 FOR 3 BUCKS A BOTTLE!!! so i cleand one store out. Ok so there you go, i do apologize for the long winded storey but its my first post and ive learned so much here already so Im curious to see what comes up. Please let me know what you think .....ok i'll take the s--tvette jokes too if thats what it takes, but i will tell you this i get a lot of smiles and thumbs up...must be the shiny chrome bumpers.
