The Chrysler products of the early 1990s were ALL [censored]. They are the shame of us Americans, that a domestic company would actually build such [censored].

My wife had one (purchased new) in high school. Her dad traded it in on a new Eclipse when the steering wheel came off in her hands while she was driving.

And that's all I've got to say about that...

I can think of better ways of getting away from Chrysler than by buying Mitsubishi...

It's a convertible, so it will always have that going for it. Personally I thought they were sharp looking.

Don't go there. The K-car and it's variants were very good for Chrysler and lots of people had them. They were affordable and for the most part, dependable.

ALL car makers, from the late 80's to 90's had problems. These were all NEW designs.

To single out one manufacturer just isn't fair.

Don't take it so perosnal!

We can single out Chryler because Chrysler was the worse of the big 3. The historical record, consumerReports will bare this out!

These transmission issues...are they for the automatic version only, or the manual as well?

Sorry, I should have clarified. The 4 speed transmission was the problem child. The three speed was solid. Owned one in a Chrysler Town&Country wagon that went over 100K without any issues. I have had no experience with the manuals.

I just wanted a cheap convertible. I did not know that it would have so many unintended benefits.

It was an absolute chick car, and I mean that in the best possible way. Everytime we went out to a club, party, whatever....the girls did not want to ride in my friend's new loaded Ram and they sure didn't want to ride in another friend's Jeep Cherokee. They wanted to ride in my Sebring and put the top down when we got into downtown Dallas or Ft Worth.

We could not fit my friend's uber-tacky Papa-San chair into his Cherokee when he was moving. Solution? Top down stuffed into the back seat of the Chrysler.

I can't describe the feeling driving top down on a cool crisp sunny autumn day, little Steely Dan on the stereo, Girl on your side looking happy in her new fall outfit....all is right with the universe

I would hope so! 100K miles isn't really that long.

I feel your vibe man....I had 4 rag tops when I was a young man. Chicks love em. Friday nights in the Summer..cruising the city. I'll be getting the wife one now that we only have one kid left to chauffeur around.

I had a '93 Duster with that 3.0L 5-spd combo. Great little car. I think it had 160k-ish miles when I sold it to a friend who is still driving it. God only knows how many miles now. It did smoke a little but it didn't really amount to an excessive amount of oil. Maybe a quart every 3k miles. Really no major issues, I was just tired of it and wanted an SRT-4.

Performance was also really good considering it wasn't a performance engine and nothing much was available aftermarket-wise. The previous owner used to race it regularly and had an aluminum flywheel made and certified for it. It had a slightly bigger minivan throttle body and a homemade cold air intake. No ECM or programmer was available so the PO just tried 4 or 5 factory ones and used the one with the quickest performance. I got consistant low 14s out of it. Not bad for what it was.

Assuming the car has been maintained any of the drivetrains in them were [censored] good.

The 2.2 or 2.5 either turbo or non were some of the best 4 cylinders from that era.

Per the 3.0, the valve guide issue was fixed long before 1990.

The 5 spd is pretty much buller proof. If your getting it cheap and everything works go for it. Most of the stupid stuff which [censored] out, you can buy.

parts are still very plentiful, dealers still have a lot of the G-body stuff beleive it or not. Also FWD Performance Turbos Unleashed have a lot of parts.
Turbo-Dodge.com and Turbo-Mopar.com are two sites where if you dont have the part someone on there will.

Good stuff.

If I get it I hope nothing every happens to the top. Was doing some researching and apparently people want $1,000, just in labor, to install a new one! And the top itself has cost. Wow.

Better hope if it has to be parked outside a bit a cat never claws it!

When I put one on mine: $1250 out the door, top + new glass window (that was in 2006 dollars.)
