OPE filters

I’ve noticed that all OPE filters use a nitrile rubber ADBV. I’m guessing it’s because since mowers are used in only warm weather, a silicone ADBV would be overkill. Thoughts? More specifically talking about the Wix 51348 vs Wix 51056.

I don't think the Briggs and Stratton filter on the generator I bought (used) even had an ADBV.

I replaced it with a Fram XG3614 (edit because I put the wrong part number there)

My application needs an adbv. I have a ph3614 on it now but I’m just curious if a nitrile dbv would be fine since it’s warm weather

Some nitrile ADBVs have been shown to get very stiff after some use, due to the heat. So if you plan on using the filter where the oil runs extremely hot, or you're going to run it for a long OCI, then a silicone ADBV will be better.

Not sure I would spend much time contemplating the adbv, the 51348 is only like $4 on RA. Is the filter with the nitrite adbv that much cheaper? I've been using 51348 on OPE for years with no issues. Get them by the case to save a few $$. YMMV

Edit - Crazy but the 51056 is $8 on RA

The Fram orange cans even have a Silicone ADBV now, they're usually around $4.

Motorcraft FL-910S has a silicone anti-drainback valve and is equivalent to the PH3614.

OPE OF do use nitrile adbvs and generally cost more than an equivalent auto filter application. The latter can and do include silicone adbvs in those applications. Topic 5/1348 vs OPE 5/1056 good example, I can get the NG1348 for ~$4 twice a year at Napa. It is about 3/4" longer so access must be considered. As mentioned the FL 910S another ~$4 OF available at WM.

Personally think nitrile fine for OPE applications, but when silicone available for same or less money no downside.

When I needed a filter for a Kohler engine, I used a Fram orange can and called it a day. It’s a low-stress application.

I use the XG3614 on a 19 HP Briggs … only change it once a year so $9 does not matter to me …
Ran the FL910s a few times as well …

Usually engines in OPE equipment run the oil temperature up there pretty high (no oil or water cooling systems), so a silicone ADBV would be a plus especially if the filter isn't changed very often.
