Now, I don't think there are any explorers among us, but look at all he features and capabilities of that truck and trailer.

If you are too lazy to check the whole site, at least scan the specs: http://www.maximog.com/specs.html

I only know the Russian Oka, which is a mini-car, somewhat similar to a Yugo. It can be bought in the US. That truck looks pretty cool, whoever makes it.

If I were to live in the outbacks, I'd love having a Landrover Defender or Mercedes G.

moribundman,
it's an Aussie designed and made vehicle.

3.9 litre turbodiesel. Dana 60s on solid axles front and rear.

Didn't notice the price. I suppose if you have to ask you can't afford it

. Noticed it has an LS-1 engine.

The ones above look a lot more efficient but don't seem to be quite in the same class as the Maximog. Although they look more efficient.

If you read the specs on the accessories ...heck...you would think that this is a private "merc" package.

Remote survelence drone plane with preprogrammed or real time flight modes (perfect for up to date visual intel).

Jet ski with radar and radar detection (a must have for water based assaults on hostile watercraft).

Trailer for an "ops center". Don't discount the need for "command and control".

Perfect vehicle for family recreation.

The Maximog is total overkill. I LOVE it!

I got a few more heavy duy off-road and exploration vehicles on my mind right now. I'll post about them one by one.

Admiral Byrd's Snow Cruiser:

They even printed a stamp, though the Snow Cruiser never made it to the South Pole. The cruiser's tires kept slipping, and even cutting deep treads with chainsaws didn't help. The Snow Cruiser is believed to have drifted away on an ice float and to have eventually sunk into the ocean. Or maybe it's still stuck in the ice.

Admiral Byrd was of course a famous Antarctic explorer, and this vehicle was his dream. A generator produced electricity for one electric drive motor in each wheel. The wheels were retractable, and an with its flat bottom, the Snow Cruiser was designed to traverse wide cravesses by pushing or pulling itself with a set of two wheels. The Snow Cruiser was supposed to carry a plane on the top.

6.1.8. Automatic exhaust brake for extended down hill operation

So how well does an exhaust brake work on a gasoline engine? I've never heard of one being used on anything but a diesel engine.

Not a problem in the USA.

USA limit is 26,000 lb. However I believe air brakes may automatically require a CDL.

The way around both restrictions? Register it as a RV/Motorhome. They are excempt from CDL requirements.
