I dont mean to be redundant about this, but it`s for my daughter sake. She is coming to my house today, and tomorrow I`ll be changing her engine oil(and probably trans.again too)My question is (once more)I have to choose between my stash of:1)Mobil-1 5w30EP 2)PYB 5w30 3)PP 5w30 4)Formula Shell white bottle 5w30

I`m leaning towards the PP,I would appreciate any comments from you guy`s on this thank you. I seem to be able to give my personal advice to others on here(whole heartedly) but cant make a decision for my personal use.

And the vehicle is?

How does she drive?

What OCI?

Guess she is in PA so that question is answered.

You know the drill!

I would be tempted to use the PP or M1 EP for her car if there are no oil leaks. Otherwise, I would go with the conventional.

With regards to the transmission fluid, have you thought about DEXRON VI?

More info on the vehicle, how it's driven, how often it gets an oil change, etc. would be helpful to answer your question.

PP is a great oil, so as long as it meets the viscosity and specs required for the car, I'd have no qualms putting it in a family member's car.

However, if your daughter doesn't come around that often and might be skipping oil changes, then I'd go with the M1 EP just to be on the safe side.

But assuming a semi-normal OCI, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the oils you have listed there

No,I havn`t thought about that one,I use the Wolf`s Head multi fluid in it,seems to work nicely.

Well, if the OCI's get neglected, thats an easy one, go with the EP. If they get moderately neglected go with the PP. If they get done regularily and your in a moderate climate, go with the Shell!

Thanx for all of your help guy`s,and sorry for the vague information @ the beginning.

1 mile to school !! I used to walk 1 mile to school in the middle of a Canadian winter uphill both ways in bare feet.

I'd use cheap dino and change it often, poor little Hyundai... ridden hard and put away wet.

I know, but in her defense she is involved in a lot of school activities such as Band,Bowling, etc. So in her situation I can understand. What do you think about the MB-1 EP with a MB-1 filter?

Can't go wrong with that. When my daughter was in college I always did the maint. on here car. I know how busy she was and if OCs were left up to her they would have been neglected because of here schedule.

lexus114, for your peace of mind, use the Mobil 1 5w30EP, and if you have a Mobil 1 filter for that car fine, other wise just use a good WIX, Purolator, or a Hyundai filter. The Wolf's Head ATF you are using is great. I would not use DEX VI in her car.

By the way, how many miles are on that car and how often do you change it.

About 80,000 miles Johnny. I change the oil around every 4-5k only did one atf drain/fill with the WH.But for some reason this motor makes noise (valve train) when cold?

Well I guess Papa Bear and I are the only ones to suggest that you use the conventional oil and CHANGE it OFTEN.

It cracks me up that people think that Syn oil will take care of all the by-products and water that this engine will produce due to the SUPER SHORT TRIPS it will see.
20.gif

There are only two things that will work;

1. Make long trips with the engine OFTEN (like a few times a week)
2. CHANGE THE OIL OFTEN

Telling someone to use ANY oil for a year is advice I would not tell anyone with such use.

But hey, to each their own.

Lexus114, I'd use any oil and more important CHANGE it OFTEN. The SHORT trips and SHORT heat cycles are NOT GOOD.

My 5 cents....

Bill

You had feet? That made it easy.

Deep breath Bill. I should have asked how many miles were on the car and how often he changed it first. If his daughter is like my son, then my recommendation stays. But, since he gets to change it every 4-5K, by all means, use either the PYB or the Shell.

Not just you.(at least you read the threads)

Some members should just cut and paste all of their replies to each and every post.

I thought we were here to help others, not sell something or justify what they are doing.

I guess its time.... Why care?

Take care Johnny.
