I wrote to Odis/Fp because I had some specific questions on FP/my car's situation.
however, I though I'd post my questions here, too, so all of you who've used FP could also give your opinios based on your exp. with FP.

These were my questions:

My car is a 97 T-bird 4.6L, currently has 93k miles.
at about 85k miles, there was some pinging starting
with 87 oct. gas. I went to 93 oct, and it stopped.
began to ping again at around 90k miles: This time, I
cleaned the MAF, replaced spark plugs: pinging gone,
so I thought I can use lower oct; put some 89 oct. in:
pinging again!!
went back to 93 oct(no pinging), and been using it
ever since...other than this pinging I had, I have no
other performance prob's, except that I THINK, car
COULD have more power. Lately gas mileage has been
dropping...SO:

I'd like to go back to lower oct.gas without the ping.
If the reason for ping is carbon build-up/fuel system
related prob's, I think FP might help. Here are my
"?"s:

-------------------------------
1) Do you see enough reasons to try FP in my car?

2) If my car doesn't really have any fuel system or
carbon prob's, will using FP hurt anything?

3) Shall I start using FP at normal dosage, or at a
higher one? any specific dosage instructions for my
case?

4) Can using FP cause the results of a used oil analysis to be off?

------------------------
would appreciate your comments, too.
Thanks in advance.

If your 'bird doesn't call for 91+ octane, use 87. This scenario sounds like what happened to one of my cars. Thought (incorrectly) that 93 must be the best because its the highest octane. Around 80K it would ping a few times where it never had before. A BITOG education revealed that the higher octane actually contributed to increased carbon deposits because of more additives for the 93. Approx. 20K worth of MolaBrew (3:1 Fuel Power/Neutra mix) at 2oz per 5 gallons initially down to the recommended FP of 1oz per 5 gallons. 87 with no pinging at all now.

1. yes
2. no
3. I think it's 2 oz per 5 gallons for the first one. 1 oz per 5 gallons after that. Then try to scale it down until the results start to diminish. I think someone runs 1 oz per 10 gallons and it still works great.
4. Sorta, but not likely.

Thanks for the repies, darkdan and shortyB,

ShortyB,

I started using the 93 oct only AFTER the pinging started on 87 and 89; 93 stopped the pinging; otherwise I wouldn't have done it.

Darkdan: I got the same instructions on dosage from Odis a few minutes ago per e-mail; this seems to be the best way to start.

So, I don't have pinging now on 93. but I should start using FP while still using 93, ? or should I start using FP and change to 89 oct at the same time?

or: start initial use of double doese FP with 1st tank still on 93, and after that slowly start going down the oct, while continuing FP normal dose, and see if it pings? (this gives FP time to work before going to lower oct(?))
What do you guys think of that?

Pls advice me further.

Hope the FP stops your pinging.

I have a 2000 Taurus with the 3.0 Vulcan. It has been pinging since around 20k miles under mild to hard accel. I assume it's pinging...sounds like marbles under the hood.

Have been using FP at 1 oz to 5 gallons. Also using LC in the crankcase. Hasn't had any effect on the pinging/marbles. I'm not dissing the product, can't work everytime. It has helped fuel mileage, and feel better running the product.

Good luck.

If it were me I'd use 93 for a tank or two still. Then go down to 91 or 89 and see if you're pinging. If you're not next time try 87. If you're pinging at 89, but not 91 then go with 91 for a few tanks.

I'd almost bet it's carbon build up causing your compression to be higher. It's going to take a few tanks to remove a lot of build up (unless you have like a 50 gallon gas tank). Play around with it. If it were me, I'd keep going down gradually and hope I end up at 87 with no problems after a month.

My bad. I thought you went up to 93 because of the pinging and after a bit, even with 93, you still got some pinging.

Its still sounds like a carbon build-up, just as darkdan states. I'd follow his recommendation too. Just keep in mind it took awhile to get this way and will take some time to clean it. Good luck and keep us posted.
