Canada, eh?
While putting the battery from my BMW on a trickle charger, I realized it's already 7 years old (8 in the new year).
After topping up the fluid levels in the cells about 3 or 4 year ago, it performed like a new battery.
Since then it's been great!

This got me thinking and reflecting on the longest running battery I've ever had.
I think that award goes to the factory MotorCraft battery in our 97 Escort. It was replaced in 07 after it barely failed a load test.
Despite being 10 years old and living in the harsh Canadian climate, it performed like a champ.
I have no doubt that it could have lasted us another year or so...but replacing it was cheap insurance.

What's the longest you've had a battery in use?

Installed a new battery in our '13 Cruze in September of this year. We picked the car up in January of 2013, so 9 years 9 months at least while in our possession, may have sat on the dealer lot for a while. our Cobalt battery is around the same age I think, surprised by the longevity of both of them.

The oem Motorcraft batteries in 2 of 3 Ford's I bought new in the 80's were fine for 7 years . I replaced them at that point proactively. A friend in the battery business told me that they were made by the former Johnson Controls.
Full kudos to the two Panasonic lead acid batteries that were in my two Kanto made Scions. I also replaced them proactively at about 7 years each. One still holds a charge as a spare at age 8.

I replaced battery in my car back in 20-21, old battery was branded Volvo so i assume it was original battery from 03. I had that car since 2009 and never changed battery before. I often used charger over night so i believe that is why it held for so long.

Not bashing but owners of luxury brands (of which I'd classify Volvo) are far more likely to go to the dealer even out of warranty, so a Volvo-branded battery is less likely to prove anything

Volvo are a fairly young luxury brand. Traditionaly they were great family cars for more reasonable cash compared to german rivals like BMW. Older Volvos still popular among young drivers.
