older Mobil 1 0w20 SL

I have a case (of 6 qts.) of Mobil 1 0w20 SL Supersyn oil. The vehicles that I use 20 wt. in call for SN rated oil. Would you run this oil in a 2014 Focus or 2016 Escape 2.5. or blend a quart at a time in with SN Mobil 1 0w20?

I believe this was a very good oil....Does anybody know the NOACK #'s?

Honestly, I think you would be fine doing the 100% thing but I would never recommend you do it for a vehicle under warranty not because I think it might fail on you but so as to not give the OEM ANY reason to deny a warranty claim. I have been running SL rated GC for 11 years in vehicles calling for SM without incident. They are obviously not under warranty. The blending idea gives me no concern about warranty claims.

SL oil in a car spec'd for SN will ruin the catalytic converter over time, but 6 quarts of it probably won't do any harm.

Better not to mix it with newer oil either because Mobil 1 SN uses a Ca + Mg additive pack whereas older Mobil 1 oils use a pure Ca pack. It won't do any damage, but conflicting additive packs are not ideal.

use it for topping up. by the time you need a top-up, the additives in the sump will be fora large part depleted, so the boost from the SL will hit the spot. You can still get the dealer oil changes for warranty purposes (documented maintenance)

Theoretically the extra phosphorous and zinc are said to ruin cats, but people would run Shell RT6 5w40 in Subarus and VWs and not get a failed smog test or P0420 error code despite having even more phosphorous and zinc than Mobil 1 0w20 SL.

You could just mix it in with your modern oil a quart each oil change.

I'd use it.
Cars had catalytic converters well before the current reduced allowable ZDDP levels and had no problems.
I've never seen a failed cat on any of our cars and I can't say that I've paid a whole lot of attention to the ZDDP content of the oils I've used.

I don't think it will ruin the CC if it's not burning oil.....I'm leaning toward doing 1 OCI in the Escape since the 2.5 isn't a DI engine (and the 2.0 Focus is).
