SL Mobil 1 0W20

I just picked up a few litres of Mobil 1 0W20 for my Honda Civic Hybrid at Canadian Tire. When I got home I noticed that they were SL not SM. I called the store and was told that they can only get it in SL right now. What's up with that? Is the SL version any worse or better than the SM? Does this mean that these are still group 4/5 instead of three?

I was looking around for more Mobil 1 0w-20 SL this past week. It's a great oil. IMO better than the SM. Additive package is very good. 900/1000 ppm of ZDDP, 250ppm of Boron. I ran this in my Honda for 10k miles. Never sampled it. Only had about 6qts of the stuff.

Mobil 1 0W-20 SL is a very good oil, the SL levels of ZDDP should not be a problem for your application.

Mobil 1 0W-20 SM meets the WSS-M2C930-A Ford spec for 5W-20's and is a good choice for cold starts & restarts, typical of hybrids.

And I don't think anyone at this site can honestly comment about whether Mobil 1 0W-20 SM has any Group III content.

LOL! If I wasn't watching the Daytona 500, I could whip up an anti Mobil 1 rant!

I've have good results over 64K miles with Mobil 1 0W-20 and 5W-20 at 7K OCI's in our 2004 Honda Element 2.4 L.

Now I'm running Pennzoil 5w-20...and it seems as good.

I'd run Pennzoil 20W50 in Alaska before I'd run that nasty Mobil stuff. Out of principle. Or is it "pal"?

HMMM I'm running low on Mobil 1 0W20 SL and wish I could find some. All SM in every store I've been to. That is unless I choose to cough up for the extended variety, it's SL but pricey.

Since the SL version had a pour point of -57°C, and the SM version has a pour point of -47°C, I wouldn't be surprised if the SM version has some Group III in it. Compare those to the original SE Mobil 1 5w20 which had a pour point of -65°C.

does "some" GIII = 1 or 2%? I don't care if it has a very small amount of GIII in it. Mobil 1 0w-20 SL is mostly PAO (but not totally, there is no 100% PAO that I am aware of). As for the SM formula, who knows anymore...

I finally saw some Mobil 1 0w20 at Walmart today. $6.98/qt. Bottle says the pour point is -65F? Nice, if you're on the moon.

Not when Motorcraft 5W20 blended syn is selling for $10.23/ 5 quart jug.

Interesting, as the specs on the EM site say "pours at temperatures as low as -53°F". The SL version had a PP of -71°F. The original Mobil 1 5w20 had a PP of -85°F.
