Could be Trav. I snapped this picture in rural Austria and just assumed they were European oils.

LOL

An auto parts store (or gas station) in rural Austria selling American brand motor oils!

Oilzum, Kendall, Gulfpride, Polly.

Maybe the proprietor liked collecting US oil containers. At least the Fuchs is an European oil. Although the Gulfpride may have been sold in Europe too.

Oilzum, the recommended oil by Offenhauser for their race engines !! Just bought a NOS can of racing 50 grade off ebay !!

Funny seeing the American oils in that display ! Oilzum was a boutique oil here back in the sixties !
Still it shows people are the same everywhere - if the oil is foreign it MUST be better than local stuff , specially if it's more expensive !

I can't talk for that guy but from my point of view as a European, American oil is cool

Have to admit, when I was younger I had a thing about Valvoline in my cars and Bel-Ray (does that still exist ?) for my MX bike !! So it shows that marketing and advertising does work when the victim is receptive !

Bel-Ray still exists, yes.

Long ago brand loyalty was pretty crazy. People didn't have access to the resources we do so they could educate themselves and be objective.

Hello, That jug of Fuchs is on sale; "Aktion" means sale. I'd guess 30 Euros is the regular price. It wouldn't be 30 Austrian Shillings in an old photograph. That would've had the price at well below $10.
