Wetbehindears, Mat_s knows from experience on this one. It has happened to me also just the way he explained his experience to you. I have had traces of moisture inside old distributor caps keep my car from starting. I would have to get it dried out or replaced to get the car going. It hasn't happened to me in recent years because I don't allow the caps to remain with me long enough for that to happen. It's very simple to replace. Once you do one it will never be a problem for you again. Plus you will experience that sense of accomplishment. Go for it.
