Wetbehindears, Mat_s knows from experience on this one. It has happened to me also just the way he explained his experience to you. I have had traces of moisture inside old distributor caps keep my car from starting. I would have to get it dried out or replaced to get the car going. It hasn't happened to me in recent years because I don't allow the caps to remain with me long enough for that to happen. It's very simple to replace. Once you do one it will never be a problem for you again. Plus you will experience that sense of accomplishment. Go for it.

I appreciate the help and encouragement but doing all this stuff after work is just tiring and just sucks; and this stuff is expensive also (the cap, rotor and wires). I'd just as soon let a mechanic do it. The parts were - oh shoot - I just looked at my reciept....the hose I bought was 10 bucks and that jacked up the price of everything.

I thought hoses were cheap - so when they rang me up for 40 dollars yesterday for a radiator hose, wires, cap and rotor - I thought it was all the wires and rotor that were to blame.

The car seemed to run fine today on a rainy morning. Maybe in the future I might do it. For now, I want to do the brakes and oil change and that's it. I am all about the "if ain't broke don't fix it" attitude. I also wrench on a vintage harley dirt bike from the 70's, so I've got to impose a quota for scrubbing dirt off my hands. Thanks.

They have a nice price if you GM car owner.

It's about twice as expensive if the mechanic sells you the parts..
