Hey all, need a quick oil recommendation. Vehicle in question is a 1995 Chevy Silverado (K1500) with the 305 (5.0L) V8. 158K, unknown maintenance history up until now but seems to run very well. Truck will be used by a family member who will do alot of short trips, about 2 miles every morning to school, another 2 miles to work, and 4 miles home. Of course there will be occasional trips to the store and friends houses but for now short trips are primary. What oil and OCI should be used? Thanks!

I agree with Errtt, whatever is less expensive. For nothing but short trips, i would go the 3 month 3k route with a cheap oil like super tech, or whatever is on sale.
Maxlife 5w30 and changes every 5,000 miles or 6 months.
Maxlife 5w30 changed at 9-12 months or 5000 miles whichever comes first. With Mobil 1 high mileage oil, a full syn, one year or 7500 miles should be do-able. Those engines seem to often leak at the rear main seal at that odometer/vehicle age unless oil was changed often. The high mileage oil should help prevent or slow leaks. Pick up a Fram Ultra XG5 oil filter at Walmart for $9 for longlife, efficient filtration and you will be set. Best price on those oils is probably at Walmart as well.
I had a '95 C2500 with a 5.7 (350) and conventional 10w30 worked well in it. I tried M1 once and it leaked so I went back to dino. I'd change the oil every 3K/12mo.
2 mile trips is the worst scenario for oil. You need the best oil with the best ad pack you can find. Synthetic oil has superior flow at lower temperatures and in this case i am defining lower temperatures as engine not up to operating temperature.
You will always be running in bypass mode. You need the thinnest oil your engine is spec'd for to get some lubrication to the engine. The other problem is the build up of water from condensation which means a good ad pack.
Mobil 1 5W30 HM.
Or possibly Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30.
Or even Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W30 for its ad pack.
I do not know anything about your specific engine, but look around and see if anyone has successfully run a 0W20 or 5W20, that would be a big help also.
Mobil’s site says for short trips, every 3 months bring the engine up to operating temperature and then drive a minimum of 30 to 45 minutes on the freeway. Then change the oil once a year.
Also for some additional engine protection at low temperatures use Lubra Moly MoS2. One can in first oil change and a half can after that. Napa part number LM2009

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Personally, I like SOPUS oils and would go with Quaker State or Pennzoil conventional with a twice a year change interval.
