82k miles. Car is spec'd for 5w-30. Ran dino up until the last two OCs. Switched to M1 at 76k and am running PP at the moment.

I picked up 5qts of GC the other day for $27 at AZ. Free K&N filter came with the deal but I will be putting that on the wife's Civic. For now I'm sticking with the Japanese Densos (found them cheap on Ebay).

I've heard a lot of talk about the GC being thicker than most 0w-30s and I'm wondering if it makes sense to switch up at the next OC given that winter is setting in.

You should be fine. You can run it for at least 7500 miles on your wife's Civic. On the Camry, It is recommended that your change the filter every 5K. Your Camry will love GC during the harsh winter of Chicago.

I saw the Japaenese Densos filters (90915-10004) for cheap too, $6 each plus free shipping. I just ordered some from there, are they legit from that seller? Sure beats $14 filters from McGeorge.

Just be careful when buying stuff from ebay. You may get counterfeit products.

"Name an American brand. Any brand, and any kind of product.

Clothing, computer chips, car parts. Just name it and we’ll tell you something about it. It’s probably being counterfeited in China as we speak.

For years, China has been the workshop of the world. And for years, American and other western firms have set up shop in China to tap into the enormous, cheap labor force.

The question is: Once the Chinese know how to make an American product, what’s to stop them from copying it?

The answer?

Nothing at al

They seem fine. Haven't cut one open though so I can't verify. Seller is in HK and I got a break on volume shipping.

I suppose it's possible but the standard part number is 90915-YZZD1. Seems like if the chinese were going to produce an imitation they would go for the mass produced part, not the 90915-10004 that maybe 0.004% of Toyota owners know about, right?

Sure it is ok but why not M1 0W40? GC is not a clean engine oil we have seen some post's on this site and on other's where it left depostis inthe head area. This oil has great viscosity improves if that is what you like to buy! It is the VII's that make it produce such low wear number combined with it's heavier almost 40Wt. viscosity. When you start out with a higher HTHS and maintain it through the OCI you get less wear. The problem is that they took a lot of additives out because it did not need it to reduce wear but in doing so they made it weak when it comes to controlling deposits and keeping things clean! I was not aware that you could still get German Made Castrol 0W30 if it is not made in Germany it is not German Castrol and should not be called German Castrol!

In a Toyota I think more additives are better not for wear reductions so much rather to keep oxidation under control and keep things disperst!!!

M1 and Toyota's go together like Milk and Cookies! The two really do work well together. I would not go with M1 0W30 though because it is a weak formula.

Still being made, and easier to find than ever, at least in my neck of the woods. AutoZone, PepBoys... take your pick. And it's on sale just about every other month, too.

First time I hear of GC not keeping engines clean though...
