I have 6 quarts of Amsoil XL 10w30 im about to use in my 96 Mark VIII, the car takes 6.5 quarts. I have a bottle of Amsoil AMO 10w-40 from a few years back, can I use half a quart of that to mix with the XL? I know the AMO is PAO and the XL is group 3 but will it hurt to mix?

It'll work. How long you going to run it for (is the key question)?
Well i'm about to get a used oil analysis for this 5k run with the Mobil 1 and depending on the results I will decide. I'm not looking to run more than 6-7k though for sure.
For that short of an interval, and that low of a concentration level (1/13 AMO + 12/13 XL 10w30), you will be safe.
