I have been told that you CANNOT Laminate a Social Security Card, I guess because a laminated one can be faked or altered more easily, BUT can you laminate a birth certificate? I have a VA. birth certificate and know it would be protected and easier to find if laminated. Any ideas? Are various states different? Thanks!

ziplock it and forget. funny you mention this, my mom laminated my social security card years ago, and i still have it, and have used it, nobody has cared.

lol..I wouldn't worry about. Birth certificates say "do not duplicate". Its done (legally) all the time.

Just don't do anything polically incorrect

I guess for this circumstance it's acceptable tho. This tends to happen a lot on forums dedicated to a certain topic and the subject is related.

You can get as many certified copies as you want from the courthouse, county, hospital etc. Get a second one and put it in a safe deposit box.

(There are stories of 80 year old records being lost to fire, do, ultimately, its on you to keep an unmolested copy.)

Ps, get a passport card. Handy for i9 forms.

There is nothing special about your birth certificate. It's just an official copy of the real ones down at the Board of Health in the town where you were born.

It is permitted as long as you don't try to pass it off as "official" A copy is not official.

You can verify it on the internet.

just use a sheet protector/ document sleeve, where you can take it out if needed, but it's still see through.

Not sure the logic to laminate it, unless you're whipping it out every other day.
