Oils that you've never used

Mainly from a particular oil company!

I mean, I've used plenty of Pennzoil Conventional and Pennzoil Platinum but, never Ultra. But, it's a particular Brand Name that I am speaking of i.e. I've never tried oil from CP(MotorCraft, Kendal, Philips T/A) but, I want to try MC one day

I have used lots of SOPUS oils such as Pennz, QS & Shell(even prior to mergers). I've used lots of WPP oils and tons of Havoline oils. Very little Castrol, Mobil though I did use tons of Exxon oils since the 60's, 70's when dad owned an ESSO/Exxon gas station('55-'79). And I have used a reasonable amount of Valvoline products.

And, I have not tried Amsoil, Royal Purple, RedLine and many European oils.

What oils(brand name, not type...dino/synblend/syn...or you can

) have folks here at Bob's never used...but, maybe always wanted to try!

This may not be quite the right section for this post but, it could be interesting and fun. Even list why you haven't tried a particular oil:

*Cost
*Haven't gotten around to it
*Wouldn't use that oil if they gave it to me
*Loyality to specific brand
*etc.

There a few motor oils that I have not tried (I have used some of these as gear oils):
  • Kendall (lack of availability)
  • Amsoil (**seems** to be too expensive--does not mean it is)
  • Motorcraft (just never got around to it)
  • Mobil 1 Extended Performance (I used M1 back when it was supposedly all PAO)
  • Castrol (just never got excited about it)
  • Royal Purple (it seemed "gimmicky" when it was introduced in TX)
  • Redline (cost and availability)
  • Pennzoil conventional (just never got around to it)
  • Warren (always seemed to be second rate--does not mean it is)
  • Havoline (no particular reason)
  • Chevron (no particular reason)
  • Motul (availability)
 
Can't say I've ever used Royal Purple or Red Line, but I think I've used pretty much every other brand out there, at least those that are available off the shelf locally. (including Amsoil as there are several stores near me that carry it)
 
I may have used a particular product from an oil company and have never known which company it came from, i.e., Costal! I've never knowingly used their motor oil but, I'm sure that I've filled my gas tank with their fuel and maybe even used some of Costal's other lubes, gear oil and such.

If you went on the Amsoil website 10 years ago, you might understand why.

Wow.. Ignorance.. Put the marketing back then aside..

Fluid wise.. IMO can't beat it..
 
MotorCraft. Ran GTX in the Ranger.

Quaker State. Have run lots of SOPUS oils, just not this one yet...? Considering the current AAP deal and rebate for the Forester.

Chevron PCMO. haven't seen a need vs other oils I have selected.. (Use other branded products, like techron and Fuel)

Mobil 1. I have some 0w-40 in the stash, but have not run it yet. Not interested in any other weight from Mobil at this time.

Amsoil. Cost.

RP/Redline/Motul. Cost and availability.

LubroMoly. Cost. (I use some other LM products though)

WPP/SuperTech. Until I came here I always viewed these as "bargain brands" and figured you get what you pay for, so they were avoided. I'd consider one for a short run now, like a flush if I didn't have something cheap in the stash. Would rather buy Edge/Pennzoil Ultra / Pennzoil Platinum / Mobil 1 on sale though.

Peak. Looks to be a decent oil, and I wanted to find a reason to buy up some when AZ was clearing it out for $3/jug but still couldn't pull the trigger.

Royal Purple Products - What's up with the purple
Brad Penn - Would try if I could find
Shell Branded Oil - Might if I could find it - Do you remember Shell Fire and Ice
Car Company branded oil - usually a ripoff
Gulf - Always liked the name for some reason - Not Available here
Sunoco - N/A in this area
Chevron - Only Costco markets it around here
Conoco - Been a while since I have seen on shelves
Castrol - Sounds like a laxative
Parts Places House Brands - Why would you?
MFA Oil - Some quick lubes in MO use it - Also they are a big time Ethanol promoter
Super Tech from WalMart - Why when other oil jugs are a dollar more

I think I've used maybe half the brands you listed. Never Amsoil (what's the point) or Royal Purple. Gulf is really just a revived brand name now and not much of a producer of anything. I remember when they were a big company, and one of their best known products was BBQ charcoal starter fluid.

This thread is a little bit hard to narrow down since there are literally hundreds of different brands just sold in the US alone.
 
Haven't used Rural King brand motor oil yet. Rural King store sells it for $1.89/quart...GF-5, SN in most all weights. I bought a quart of Rural King straight weight detergent 30W for my lawn mower last week, but haven't used it yet.
 
I've never used anything from valvoline/ashland before (had some nextgen but gave it to family members).
Never used Pennzoil Platinum, Pennzoil Conventional
Never used Quaker State Conventional, Defy.
Never used any M1.
Never used Amsoil.
Never used Royal Purple.


Used PU, Quaker State Ultimate Durability, but mostly Kendall, Trop Artic and MC, with a OCI or two of Mobil Super. This is my first OCI using anything castrol and its Castrol with ti.
 
I've used most, whether it was in our vehicles or families. Haven't used M1 in our cars or Quaker State Ultimate Durability. No particular reason, just preference I guess.
 
Amsoil: Price, and the fact that it must be ordered

Chevron: I've never seen it around here.

Havoline: I've only seen it at the local Advance Auto and it was 20w50.

Royal Purple: Price

Kendall: Lack of availability

European oils: I don't have a vehicle that requires them.

I've tried pretty much everything else (except for cheap gas station no-name oil). If not in my own vehicle, I've changed the oils in other people's vehicles or equipment.
 
There are various brands that I have not used, such as Red Line, Royal Purple, Motul, and such. There is just no time to try all of them.

I will try Red Line when my stash is reduced.
