Well This is a well know question and its always asked what oil is the best i came down to about 4 types of oil

Amsoil (Which they say is the best of the best)
Lucas (Same thing)
Mobil 1 (same thing, but some people say its not FULL syn)
Royal Purple (Some people like it some people dont)

Which one do you guys think would be the best I want to run full syn in my baby.

Thanks!

by the way i run a 01 tundra v8 80k

No long shot. You can't go wrong with Pennzoil Platinum. Royal Purple is an outstanding oil PERIOD !

What kind of driving habits do you have? How long do you go on oil changes? Has the past maintenance been well taken care of?

I ask because it will determine which would be a better choice for your Tundra.

Amsoil for typical driving conditions and oil changes up to 12,000 miles (do a UOA if you wish to extend further) or one year. Out of those, it would be the best for long drain intervals.

Mobil 1 and Royal Purple have shown some good UOAs, but wouldn't recommend going past 7,500 miles on an oil change without a UOA. These aren't the most ideal for long drain intervals (perhaps Mobil 1 Extended Performance would do better than regular Mobil 1), in my opinion.

I have heard of some using Lucas, but never for extended oil changes. If you want to go 5,000 miles between changes, and this is the cheapest, then give it a go.

Pennzoil Platinum wasn't on the list and from UOAs of RP, I think otherwise about it being outstanding. But that's just me I guess.

Mobil 1 0w40 is a premier extended drain oil (if European car makers are to be trusted) - and it's apparently still 100% grp IV.

Mobil 1 EP - here Mobil has given a blanket warranty to the entire U.S. driving population (if you don't have pre-existing issues w/ your engine) for 15k/1 yr OCIs. A very harsh Las Vegas taxi cab test was done (blazing ambient temps/ with cab drivers saying they probably sat idling 3x as much as driving - which meant the engines ran for WAY MORE than the 15k interval indicates) - engines show essentially zero wear - thus I don't understand the statement that M1 EP is a 7.5k oil. Mobil would be in jurisdistic Hades if that were true).

Mobil 1 has always stated in their FAQ area that their "regular" M1 lines can handle any OEM recommended OCI, including European long drains.

The Oil Life Study (Neptune) guys pushed (regular) M1 to 18k miles before blackstone recommended a chg (still had oil life remaining).

From the UOAs I've read, I have less confidence than ever that M1, Amsoil, etc can handle the 25k type of OCI (w/o a passive filter - Blackstone Lab's web page seems to agree). So keep it 15k OCI or less and use M1, Amsoil (and a few others) w/ utter confidence.

("jurisdistic" is not a word, but it's close enough.)

ERicthepig,

I don't think Exxon recommends Mobil 1 for extended drain intervals.

Mobil 1 EP is only 15,000 miles in the rare occasion that your car is out of existing warranty, and then only for normal driving or 1 year, whichever occurs first.

out of all those choices which one do you see that is advertised the most?
Advertising makes you feel all fuzzy inside when you see your brand oil spending your money on advertising.
the company that advertises the most sells the most.
so it has to be good right?
I see Castrol advertised ALOT

TimVipond, there's no way I can back this up with proof (it's long gone) - but I have perused the Mobil 1 web site for many a year - from Tri-Syn days to Super Syn days. And - "back in the day" (seven to eight yrs ago) - in the FAQ section, Mobil 1 made mulitple statements for which I'll here paraphrase a typical Q&A -
User - "Many American and European car co. are now advising very long OCIs - some as high as 18k, will M1 handle these OCIs"

M1 - "We recommend you always follow the OEM OCI, and you can be very confident that M1 is more than capable of handling these OCIs" (and these were in reference to the entire M1 line - not just 0w40).

Also note that Mobil 1 used to guarantee their M1 product line for 25k or one year (I believe this was the case thru the '80s and early '90s). Then they backed off this. They were still answering questions on this seven or eight yrs ago - there answer was something to the affect - "we wanted to stay consistent with the OEMs recommendations, though M1 is quite capable of going above and beyond these".

Then, around 1997 when I was flirting with leaving Amsoil due to shipping charges (and I did leave), I called M1 (really!) and told them I did 25k/yr and asked if I would be ok with M1. The technician told me they could only state that M1 was recommended up to 15k OCIs. Then I told him it was mostly hi-way, etc, and he said "we only only state 15k, but you will be fine."

So, historically, with the EP line, M1 has simply once again put the warranty on the bottle. But 15 to 25k has always been the stated (whether on the bottle or on their web page (though sometimes buried in their FAQ sections) OCI assured for the full M1 product line.

However, now that they've once again stated it for EP, who knows if they might reformulate some of the reg. M1 line to be less than 15k oil (??).

Edit above post -

"Also, around 1997 when I was flirting with leaving Amsoil due to ...".

Didn't want you think 1997 was a typo, that was indeed when I called them (96, 97ish).
