Oil Volume/Oil Life question?

I just got my first oil change in my 2003 Camry 4 banger. I was surprised to find it only takes 4 quarts of oil.

My questions are:

1. What is harder on this volume of oil. The fact that is runs hotter as there is less oil to circulate than a 5-8 quart system?or.....because this volume circulates more and has less, that it gets contaminated faster?

I realized this too as I was looking at the capacities of my new-to-me 2004 Highlander with the 2.4l. (which I think your camry has too) I would think both of those concerns are equal, though I'd tend to fall more towards the heat issue, hence my plan to switch to syn oil very soon.

Increased volume means a greater volume of additive to suspend contaminants as well as a greater amount of additive to neutralize blowby products, etc. Theoretically all things being equal, if your car held 8 quarts instead of 4 it could go twice as long between oil changes.

The disadvantage is that the larger volume of oil takes longer to come up to full temperature. It offers margin for when the engine is getting too hot in cooling capacity, but when it is cold it is twice as much oil to bring up to temperature.
