I am interested in learning more about the temperature limits of my motor oil.
The car is a 2005 Audi S4. It's a small car with a monstrous 4.2L 40V V8 under the hood. The car has a 9.5 qt sump capacity. There is a primary radiator & aux radiator for the motor, and a third radiator that handles oil cooling. It's still a lot of motor in a tight space and this thing gets HOT.
I haven't catalogued any oil temps yet but I am curious what values I need to be nervous about. People around here seem to squawk at the 240+ readings from the newer BMW turbo motors. I wouldn't doubt this car is hitting the 240s under heavy load.
I run Motul 300V 5w40. Specs below:
Visc @ 40C: 72.7
Visc @ 100C: 13.32
VI: 187
Flash: 460 F
TBN: 8.3
For some reason the PDS actually says the viscosity grade is 10w40. Probably a typo?
