Oil temp gauge with Amsoil By Pass

I have installed an Amsoil BMK-13 By Pass filter set up and am wondering of anyone has added an oil temp sender to this setup.

I am thinking that the oil sample valve location would work.

Opinions and ideas .....

Adding a temp sender at the petcock location should work fine Since the BMK-13 is machined out of aluminum (high heat transfer coefficient) and that port is close to the oil stream, you'll get pretty accurate oil temps.

Keep in mind that a sender mounted there would measure the temperature of the oil going into the engine. The oil in your oilpan would be a little hotter.

Does the Amsoil unit come with a pressure gauge? If not, you can grab one from Carquest (mechanical sender) for $10.

The question was about an oil temperature gauger, not a pressure gauger. No, the Amsoil unit does not come with a Pressure gauger.

I plan on using a digital oil temp gauger from Dakota Digital ( http://dakotadigital.com/ ).

I don't know how effective it would be.

I would rather have the oil temp taken from the Oil pan.

Punch a whole about 1/4 way up on the side and tap it in there. You will have a more accurate reading of the entire oil, not just a mere 10% at any one time.

I would bet taking the temp from the by-pass filter could be several if not 10's of degree's cooler than the pan itself.
