Installing a Frantz Oil Bypass Filter on my 2023 4Runner

Thanks for those that have given input on the forum on bypass filters. I plan on keeping this 5th gen 4Runner until it dies and well in to my retirement (which should start in the next 2 years) so I want to do what I can to extend the life of the engine. Insane Diesel has one for 5th gen 4Runners but at close to $700, I think I am better off buying the Frantz universal and putting together the rest of what I need to add to my 4Runner.

I still have to figure out where to mount it, it looks like by the air filter is the only open spot. I ordered the universal filter so now I just need to gather the rest to install it. I will tee off the oil pressure fitting for supply and I plan on drilling and tapping a Gates aftermarket oil filler cap for the return. Any other input is welcome. I rarely post here but come to the forum when I have questions and search for where my questions have been addressed by others. There is great knowledge available here.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see what anyone really gains by using these types of add-on parts. I see the "Insane Diesel" version (https://insanediesel.com/collection...bypass-oil-filter?_pos=1&_fid=439ce1d08&_ss=c) seems like a LOT of claims that, I''ll bet, can't be independently verified, i.e....

• Radically extend engine life 2X
• Reduce engine wear
• Keep oil up to 4X cleaner than new oil
• Progressive 3 stage filtration down to 1 micron, won't clog or drop efficiency like others filters
• Reduce soot and carbon buildup
• Reduce erosion of hoses & seals
• Extend oil change intervals
• Remove 99.9% of moisture
• Improve gas mileage
• Improve oil cooling
• Large housing holds 4000X more contaminants than OEM filters
• Easy installation and maintenance
• 15K (or up to *25K miles) 250 hours, or 1 year before maintenance is needed
• *Condition based oil analysis monitoring recommended when extending oil/filter change intervals

for a ton of money! To *me*, their pimping their product while circumventing the engineering that went into the vehicle. "The more you overtake the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain".

I'll stick with high quality oil, no more than 5K change intervals (unless testing indicates the necessity for something different), save myself a ton of money, and call it good. But hey...that's me.

Op bought the Frantz, not the Insane, Frantz has been keeping oil clean for over 60 years, circumventing a lot of engineering that cannot. :)

It's always amusing to me when they say "up to". What does that even really mean? It's a nothing statement.

Go for it. That's a Great Idea
Do what makes you happy
Do your research
This website is a Great resource
I'm currently running an Amsoil BMK 23-EA Dual-Remote Bypass System, on my 2011 Ford Expedition EL 4x4 in my signature
I installed it 10+ yrs ago (Jan 2016)
When my truck had 100k miles
My truck currently has 431k miles
The Amsoil Bypass System is perfect for my vehicle/driving style.
Your Filter placement will be Key❗
I recommend a bypass system for anyone who drives quite a bit (15-30k yr)
Most Importantly with a Naturally Aspirated Motor, as Turbos have fuel dilution issues.
I look forward to following your progress
Good Luck to you!

I just installed the universal version from Frantz today, I used to run bypass filters when I owned first gen Powerstrokes. Due to the size it was a pretty easy install, the hardest part was getting the electrical connector off the oil pressure sensor. Frantz was pretty good at answering my questions and so far I am pleased with the kit. Maybe I can get to the mileage Crusher is at - that’s a lot of miles.

My long gone dad had one - I remember my job was to spool off enough 1 ply to fit the can perfectly bcs my work would be checked closely ! 😉
