oil suggestions Fresh Ford 302

Hi everyone.. first post here on BITOG..

dont really understand oil's that well.. So im turning to a large group of smart people when it comes to oils.

I want suggestions synthetic vs. semi vs. dyno..

also what weight etc..

the engine is setup as this.

Fresh Rebuild 500 miles.

5.0 .030 over Flat Top pistons
Comp Cam XE-264 Hydraulic Roller Cam
1.72 Roller Rockers
Trick Flow 170cc/58cc chamber heads.

TYPE OF DRIVING:
daily Driver, 6 miles to work. but drive quite a bit other than to work and back..
Live in Middle Tn so you get an idea of weather.


so what's yalls suggestions???

Go with a simple 10w30 for now. Do a couple 3,0000 mile oil changes with conventional or synthetic-blend to get all the break-in metals out. Then you could go with a full synthetic to protect your investment.

Is this in a truck or car? Stock oil pan or large capacity?

I am planing on a BOSS block 347 with TFS heads this year, have heard a lot of people with Windsors running Mobil 1 0W40.

fairly tight clearances in the bottom end..

Your right. My bad. I did not see the roller stuff in your first post. Any 10w30 will be fine.

A quality conventional 10w30 will suit you fine. your 30 over now make your motor a 306, just incase you didnt know. nice heads and cam! what kind of intake?

Yup, and that's my recommendation as well, Mobil 1 0w40. I used it in my 302's, as well as one VERY similar to the OP's in my buddy Nate's car.

Mobil 1 0w40 is simply a better oil than a 10w30. It is going to better low temperature performance, better deposit control, better wear control, and considering we are speaking of an engine that is NOT stock, using a lubricant designed for engines at his current power level, not 1987 power levels is IMHO, a much better idea. I have had nothing but spectacular performance out of Mobil 1 0w40 in engines very similar to the OP's. Engines that have remained spotless inside upon tear-down with no discernible wear. That has been my experience, not speculation.

Skip the Mobil 1 0w-40 and get some rotella t5 10w30. Much cheaper and a good HDEO that will take anything that 5.0 can throw at it.

They make break in oils if you want to run one. Its not really needed with a hydraulic roller. If it were me I would run rottella t5 10/30 for the break in. It a higher level of additives which would help.
Run two. 500 mile ocis and then switch to a sythetic and run 3k ocis for a while. When it gets to 10k or so you can extend the interval if you want.

A lot of people will tell you there is no need for a 500 mile dump because of plating and bla bla bla bla. But in my opinion, you should dump it soon to get rid of all the wear metals from break in.

Is this engine carb'd or fuel injected? If carb'd i would use the conventional 10w30 say pennzoil at no more than 3k changes. If its fuel injected rotella 10w30 at 5-7k changes or Mobil 1 0w40.
