Oil sampling with the engine running

I'm going to use a sampling pump, just after engine is shut down; should be good enough, imo.

I'll draw out several smaples, and won't send the very 1st one, hopefully that'll minimize stuff from inside dipstick tube. and I'll be very careful when inserting the tube to avoid "scraping" as much as I can.

is it possible to strain out the dipstick-crud(IF any visible chunks are seen in sample) with a tea-strainer or something like that??

3MP simply would slightly loosen his drain plug, let a little bit dribble out, then take his sample. I don't understand why he wouldn't simply get a fumoto though. Then he could drain out one full quart into a clean bottle first, draw a small sample, then pour the full quart back into the engine. This way none of his samples are from the first little bit out of the sump.

Interesting. He did what I was thinking of doing, only with the car off.

So there was no noticed contamination, right?

Do what the on the road diesel truck guys do. There is an oil pressure port in the block that has an oil sampling valve. With the engine running, open the valve, and take the sample after the filter. Now all you have to do is find a pressure port and a way to connect to it. Philip.
