What oil recommendations weight\ brand ? Haven't had a chance to look at the owners manual.

If the car is not there you can view owner's manuals here:

Plus most every oil mfgs website has an oil selector tool...but, I like deferring to the O/M.

They can require a spec, not a brand.

@SR5, good find.

Correct.

My comment was based on the OP stating that "Castrol Pro" was required and that (requiring a brand), as has been pointed out, is not kosher. Either way it's moot because as I said it's not "required" but rather "recommend" per the OM language.

Thanks for the replies...my bad..the owner's manual recommends Castrol, not requires it. I live in Georgia and think it should fall under normal driving...car will be driven about 60 miles daily during the work week and other errands. Calls for 10,000 OCI, but may go with 7500.

Have seen youtube vids of oil changing on this car...people using everything to NAPA to Mobil 1. Also saw one where the dealer charged someone like $297 for oil change...$79 parts and $197 labor!!

wondering if I can just go to the dealership and buy the oil they recommend?

Why couldn't you? I don't know a dealership in existence that doesn't sell the recommended oil for their vehicles. I know the BMW, Toyota and Honda dealers in my area all do.

Mobil1's oil selector picks 5w-20 for my 1993 F150. Really?

Check it again.

Yep, 5w-20
