New to the site so thanks for understanding.
-2004 Honda Pilot AWD
-Manual says 5w-20 with API seal.
-I live in Tennessee(Memphis) so no hills or mountains but Summer temps reach 100 and Winter can be in the teens.
-My wife drives the truck mostly so I "think" she drives easy and moderate speed. When I drive it's medium and definitely faster.
-Daily driver for wife errands and stop and go city traffic.
-No problems with the vehicle.(as I knock on a piece of wood)
-So, It's the family vehicle. Trips, all family outings and occasional pontoon boat towing and single jet ski towing. Oil cooler installed by Honda.
I use synthetic because I have been lead to believe it is better than dino. I use SuperTech 5w30 because it's cheap($17 for 5qt. jug) and 5w-20 is not available in this area's Walmarts. I want to continue using synthetic as I change oil at 5,000 intervals to coincide with tire balance/rotations/alignment checks. Would happily use Mobil 1 or other higher priced big name(Amsoil) if it really is better than SuperTech. I would guess for my boring application that ANY oil would do just fine but I am having fun on the Honda Pilot forum learning what everyone thinks is the "best" and I'll go along with the flow. Mobil 1 and Amsoil are the favorites on the Pilot forum.
Also, any suggestions on oil filters would be appreciated. I have been using Honda filters but would just like to pick one up with my oil purchase if 1 is better than the other. Purolator Pure One, Wix and Mobil 1 filters are commonly discussed on the Pilot forum. Recommendation is one with metal ends inside vs. cardboard.
So what do you think. I know this has been asked 10 million times, or more, but please bare with me.
Thanks,
MG
