First post woo! Thought id start out by asking recommendations or to see if what im running already is good enough.

1 . What kind of vehicle you have

I drive a 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo with 138,500 miles on the odometer. I purchased the car back in June of 2007. The previous owners stated the engine was overhauled 3 years prior to me buying it, but because they moved off to Denmark when I bought the car there are no records, however it runs like a champ and that's all I care about. The car is not stock anymore I have installed an Intake, downpipe, cat back exhaust, removed the cat. The previous owners installed an aftermarket Greddy Turbo upgrade which used a TD06H-20G MHI turbo, this was the only modification done to the car at the time of purchase. The turbo ironically was on its way out when I bought the car the oil seals finally gave out three weeks ago. It was rebuilt and is now back on the car. The turbo is only oil cooled. I pulled the cylinder head to fix a stripped thread for the spark plugs, and had the head rebuilt at that time. This was 29K miles ago. Lately for the past 32K miles I've been using Castrol Euro Formula 0w30 and Purolator PureOne filters. I ran Motul 5W-40 back in June. I just changed it a few weeks ago to Eneos 5W-40 because I got a deal on Amazon for it. My change interval is 5000 miles. Im not sure if this matters but my car uses a low pressure high volume oiling system so I only see 4.7~psi at idle.

2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well.

Quoting from my owners manual.
"Use Engine oil of API grade SF or SF/CC"
Recommended viscosity range from 5w30 all the way to 20W-50. The dealers use 10w30.

It states 5000 miles interval for normal driving conditions and 2500 miles for severe driving conditions.

Now I know a lot has changed in the past 22 years which is why I wanted to ask reccommendations.

3. Where you live

I live in Houston, TX

4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)

Lets face it im young, 20 years old, I drive conservatively...most of the time, I do give the car a good shake down at least once of week. The car does see boost daily between 10-12psi. I do take the car out to the drag strip occasionally. I won't lie I have taken the car on top speed runs on secluded empty stretches, but I don't baby the car by any means.

5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)

Short trips, my university is only 10min away (Less than 5 miles). Work is 15min away (Less than 5 miles). I drive out to my mother place every Sunday. She lives 35 miles from me and that's all highway driving.

6. Whether your car has any known problems

No problems except for leaky valve cover gaskets which are getting taken care of this weekend.

I obviously prefer synthetics mainly I want that turbo to last. The car is equipped with a turbo timer. I went to the Castrol Euro oil mainly on recommendation from a forum I am on. I come here to learn more. =)

German Castrol is a great oil and I would think it worked great in your car. Since turbo is cooled by oil only you might have to go with the heavier Xw-40 weight depending on your oil temperatures.

I suppose Enoes 40 weight might be good for you, but there are too few reports about Enoes here to say anything conclusive.

Few other oils come to mind as well:
M1: 0/5w-40, Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30, maybe even 15w-50 during race/high heat situations
Pennzoil: Ultra/Platinum 5w-40
Castrol: GC or 5w-40, possibly 5w-50
Amsoil: i don't have any experience with it, but other people can comment on the weight

If you go 5k oil changes I would suggest analysis done. You're going max interval allowed in owner's manual + turbo and other add ons, but synthetic oils have improved quite a bit since late 80's and mid 90's as you've pointed out.

AWESOME car! Do you have any pics? Supras have always been one of my fave cars! From the 1983 model all the way to the 90`s era twin turbos, they`re all awesome cars! If you go synth, there`s always RP and Amsoil (which are pao base) and then there`s Motul and Redline (which are ester base). I`d go 10W40 minimum. You mentioned Eneos. I`d love to try their 0W50.

That's severe service. I would shorten the oci,use a good synthetic, the 10-30 the Houston dealers use would be my starting point and your experience after that. Drain an fill the cooling system,as needed, for maximum efficiency. Drive it as easily as possible for longer life or trade now for something likely to live longer. 02.

Ive heard that the Euro Castrol 0w30 is close to a 40w at operating temps. I guess ill stick with that or a 5w-40 and get an analysis done on both see how each one holds up. I do have an oil cooler on the car though so that should help with temps.

Thanks! I like the Japanese Sport and GT cars of that era. I have a couple of pics somewhere in my photobucket. Im thinking a 50W is going to be too thick for daily driving.

I think i shouldve been more clear is that the 10w30 is what the factory fill was 22 years ago. I believe they are using 5w30 as standard now. My cooling system has been taken care of, G-05 Coolant, New water pump, fan clutch, the radiator was fairly new when i get the car. However a Aluminum rad will be going in sometime in the near future.

Ive heard about the Rotella how does that compare to the other good quality synthetics out there? My understanding is that this is for Heavy duty trucks.
