My buddy has a 2001 chevy s-10 with the 4.3 v6

he has 230k miles, truck is very nice and runs good.

he has been running Valvoline MaxLife 10w30

could he run shell rotella t5 10-30 without problems?

Im wondering if the high amount of miles would be a problem?
do any of you think introducing a HDEO at this point would cause problems?

thanks

He could run rotella T5 just fine, however if he has 230k miles on maxlife why change? Maxlife is a very good oil . I dont see a benefit to running T5 over Maxlife , stick to whats been working.

MaxLife 5w30....0r Mobil 1 0w30....would be perfect (yearound) for your Michigan climate....you'll have easier starts in the winter months.

I would run Valvoline MaxLife 5w30 all year, maybe 0w30 m1 if you do short trips in winter.

230k miles? I'd run 5w30 and not have any problems with it. Doubt if he even needs the High Mileage oils.

after talking to him about it, turns out his dad knows the original owner (my buddy being the 2nd owner) and the guy has a log of all his maintinence.

been using valvoline maxlife 5w30 since it was new every 4-5k miles.

so i told him to just stick with the valvoline since it works so good.

the truck is mainly high way miles and looks like it has 100k miles on it.

Sorry for being anal, but can people please refrain from titling their posts with "Quick Question"?

The point of the subject is to inform the reader what your problem/request is so that those who are not interested will not click it. I think "Oil recommendation" or "Oil recommendation for a high mileage vehicle" would have been a more appropriate title in this case, IMO.

+1

I agree with a couple of others. Maxlife 5w30. I personally use Quaker State High Mileage (Red Bottle) 5w30 in my older vehicles. It works great, too. Stopped a rear main seal leak on my ol pickup.

Im sorry guys, only reason why i tittled it that way was we were getting ready to go get some oil while at the store, but we then found out his dad had some T5 already.

wanted to know if the t5 would work.

but ended up getting the oil
