Oil Recomendation Please

New guy, so looking for the best oil for my driving. I did however real the stickies like a good poster

And I know I do to much research somtimes. (And this isn't my dailing driver, I have a civic for that)

Vehicle:
- Honda S2000 '2002
- AP1 (Redlines 9500, stock ~200whp)
- Greddy Turbo (~10spi, ~285whp)

In the Mile High City (Denver). I'm going to be driving it pretty hard most of the time (doing some SCCA events, nothing pro, just to have fun). When I drive it hard it's mostly going to be short trips, but sometimes fun in the mountains. I don't plan on ever driving it hard during the winter (below 50F) and have no problem chaning the oil every 3k miles.

Now I've been doing so much reading (even on these forums) and I'd like to use a "Truly" fully synthetic oil (gIV not gIII). I read a post about gIII being called Synthetic (Castrol vs Mobil). The techs at my garage installing my Turbo use Schaeffer Supreme 9000. Now the website says it contains "hydrocracked" oil which is a gIII type oil, not fully synthetic (by my standards), so I imagine I don't want to use that.

Additionally, the S2000 engine normally eats oil (specially when I was using Mobil 1, it most definitely was). If something goes wrong under the hood, I don't want it to be the engine, if I can help it.

Am I over analyzing gIII vs gIV? Can I get a few recommendations and why those recommendations will work for my driving?

For the type of use you're talking about I'd use Redline's 5w30 or Mobil's 0w-40. Or Rotella T6 5w-40. Or something along those lines. Honda engines are generally thought of as being easy on oil but with a turbo attached and spinning to 9500 RPM I'd want the extra protection.

+1 Those would be the oils I would be looking at. No need to really look past those 3 choices. The RedLine will expensive but less prone to shear (Grp.V with no VII's), the others are fine choices as well and give you some wiggle room as they shear to 30 grade, not to mention they are fine oils as well. Just what do you want to pay...that is what it comes down to. I personally would use the Rotella 5w40 and see how it is standing up via used oil analysis. If it is not doing well, then I might spring for the RL.

Is there a trick to determine if an Oil is gIII or gIV easily? For some reason, its really hard for me to tell, and I have to do lots of research.
