i have a new elantra and they recomend 5w20 & 5w30 for fuel saving & 10w30 above 0 .i live in georgia and would like to know what you guys think would the best oil & weight for the long run. i plan to keep the car at lest 100,000 miles.

I'd go with either a 5w-20 or 5w-30 and change it out at the recommended OCI per the MFG.

Any of the brands will do you fine. Pennzoil, Halvoline, Valvoline, Castrol GTX, QS, ect are all great oils.

Change the oil filter each time and you'll be fine for the 100k and beyond.

Nice car! One of my co-workers just got one and I have to say that Hyundai is making some serious cars for the $$.

Take care, Bill

You asked for the best oil and weight, so I suggest Amsoil 0W20 and their EaO20 oil filter. Just change both once a year up to 25,000 normal miles or 15,000 severe miles and get a free parts and labor warranty for the lifetime of the car should the oil or filter ever fail. It meets your new car warranty and so does the extended change intervals. Contact a site sponsor and help support BiTOG!

My daughter has the exact same car. She abused the heck out of it. She lives 800 miles away and never changes the oil. Just tells her Daddy "yes" and goes on down the road when asked. Long story short...last time her and loverboy were here I went through that car....it was a nightmare...she cannot be my child! That oil looked like it came out of the bilges of the USS CHICAGO.....So I flushed it with some Amsoil engine flush I had....changed the oil with Amsoil 0-30 I had and a NAPA filter....changed the PCV/Air Filter....
she told me the car never had gotten as good of MPG and ran like a top.....she now is a believer in changing her oil when Dad tells her because she realizes the return on investment is quite nice. Bottom line and to answer your question...Her Elantra is getting excellent MPG and runs very smooth on Amsoil 0-30 now. I sent loverboy a case recently and heart be still he actually changed her oil....so there is hope.....

do you get amsoil on line,or do some of the auto stores carry it if i go that route.

If you want to keep your 10 year 100,000 mile warranty follow Hyundais recommended oci. It would seem to be a waste to dump amsoil at 7,500 miles.

Amsoil extended oil changes will not void the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. It's the law. And

What law ? What law says that an oil company statement overrides a manufacturer recommendation.
I have a Hyundai owners manual in front of me and it states to use only 5w20 or 5w330 or 10w30.

OCI severe use 3,750 normal use 7,500.

Nothing about using the world best oil and only changing once a year.
Do you have any experience working with Hyundai and their warranties?

Yeah , thats what I thought, info from amsoil web site. Take that to the Hyundai dealer and see what you get....nothing.
First you say use an oil that is not recommended ie 0w30. Next use and extended oci. Man this is just bad information.
If you expect a car manufacturer to honor their warrantry you can't try to scam them. They will say that any engine damage was caused by your super oil. A factory trained Hyundai tech will swear to that in a court of law. Now what are you going to do? How can you prove that they are wrong?
Your honor I call the amsoil web site to the stand...lots of luck.

I paid the $20 bucks per year and am a prefered customer....so get the 20%+ discount....order whatever from them and get it really quick right to your doorstep is a good thing.......local NAPA also sells Amsoil...but he is like $8 bucks a quart where I get it for much cheaper than that directly from Amsoil....or order it directly from one of the Amsoil sponsors here on the board....and get free "consulting" for life!

Reggaemon - read up on Moss-Magnusson Warranty Act
(15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) . Amsoil has never had the factory warranty denied because of use of their recommended oil and change intervals. No warranty issues listed with the BBB. If you want to stick with factory recommendations, go with the Amsoil 5W20, 5W30 or 10W30.

My daughter has an 06, great car. Hyundai is big on using their oil filters, problems with some after market filters. Knocking ,flow issues ect.A warning has been posted by Hyundai. Avoid a warranty hassle use the Hyundai oil filter.

As Bill suggested, I would go with the factory recommended oil changes of 3750 miles and use 5W20 Oil.

We have a 2007 Huyndai Santa Fe with the 3.3 Liter Engine and a 2005 Tuscan with the 2.7 Liter Engine and have been using 5W20 Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic and Hyundai Oil Filters.

Next couple of oil changes will be Havoline 5W20 Synthetic that we bought at Big Lots on Clearance. After that will go back with Motorcraft 5W20 that Wal-Mart Sells for $10.00 and change for a 5 quart jug.

I had 4,000 miles on the factory fill in my Santa Fe when I changed it. 3,750 miles between changes is about right for the type of driving that we normally do with a lot of short trips in town and stop and go driving in heavy traffic.

Avoid problems with your warranty and change the oil as recommended. We are talking of spending around $20.00 if the dealer does it.

If only gasoline was that inexpensive!

Would you tell a owner of a new car to run 15k - 25k ocis right off the bat? Not knowing what use the car is going to be getting..

Would you tell a customer with a 10 year/100k mile warrenty to do such a OCI?

Man.. Tim stop being such a OIL SALESMAN...

SAD.. This advise is so against what BITOG is about. Almost EVERY POST from you is selling a certain brand of oil.

I hope that the orginal poster does NOT follow your advise.

Just amazing.

This is what all 3500 of the State Police cars in Texas have been doing for the past several years. Amsoil has backed up these recommendations with it's own warranty for 35 years. No warranty issues listed with the BBB. This is exactly what I've done with my past several new vehicles. Some are 24 years old. I've never sold any oil at BiTOG. FACTS.

I think i will just go with havoline 5w30 at 4000 mile change. thanks everyone.
